it was only a matter of time...and by that time.... all the other providers will be ready with new and better offerings.
The Hero @ Sprint is a Real iPhone killer around here http://now.sprint.com/android/index.php?pi...Android_Content

T-Mobile introduced Android and has a new release that works well. I used one for a few days and though I liked it they're just to large for my use. http://gizmodo.com/5272229/t+mobile-mytouc...-improved-award

T-Mo also has the new Cliq from Motorola which a friend that works at Tmo just acquired ...so far..so good...though he did say that the slider was a bit flimsy. http://gizmodo.com/5381995/motorola-cliq-review

Verizon has good coverage around here and Sprint has the speed, where Tmo appeals to a lower price point with a not so crowded 3G network it's faster and more accessible than at&t. 90% of the time I use mine for calls so call quality is always the priority.

At least half of the folks that I know who have at&t phones are unhappy with their service, that's not a good sign.

I bought an HTC Hero (Sprint) 3 weeks ago. Excellent phone!
Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog very long.
Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.

I live in the center of the US and never have problems... Sprint’s back yard! wink.gif

But I also travel a lot. California has never been a problem. Going east I have had coverage From Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western New York, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and western North Carolina. Going north, good coverage in Iowa, Minnesota, western Wisconsin, North Dakota, eastern Wyoming, Colorado, and Kansas. Occasionally there will be a 10-15 mile blank, but those who have Verizon have the same problems.

I have had trouble with NW South Dakota, western Nebraska, Montana. Verizon has better coverage, only because they purchased Alltel which had coverage in those areas. Simply Everything for Sprint is about $50/month cheaper than Verizon or AT&T for comparable services.

Shades, did you have any trouble syncing files to your Mac?

Do you use the GPS built-in or an additional service?

Browser?...have you tried Omni 5....it's fast... wink.gif

When I bought it at Sprint, the guy told me it would synch with Macs (but I told him I didn’t think so). When I brought it home and began investigating, that is not yet part of the deal. It isn’t a deal breaker for me yet. My office is my MBP and so I usually have both Hero and MBP wherever I am. But I was told this past week that there is a planned upgrade for Hero that would include Mac synching. Otherwise, I will get the Missing Synch application when it is released soon.

Previously I had a Palm Centro with PalmDesktop, which was rather clunky and old, but worked flawlessly for synching.

At the risk of being called an iPhone fanboi, this is a very interesting link concerning the amount of memory actually in the Motorola Droid. <The Motorola Droid will be the most powerful Android phone to date when it launches on November 6, 2009. However, the device still features the same shortcomings of all other Android phones. The Droid ships with a 512 MB ROM which contains only 256 MB available for app storage.

Google does not support installing apps to the SD card (and likely never will), so developers are limited in what they can create.
> And these comments are not from a pro-iPhone site by any means. It seems that Verizon touts a 16GB memory space available but fails to mention that no apps can be stored there are that it will be an extra cost upgrade for the SD card. dntknw.gif Same sticker price as a 16GB iPhone but with only .5GB? Of course, most people will not notice until they try to install a few apps...Like most things in any market, no what you're getting before handing over your money. yes.gif "Information" from only the retailer/manufacturer is a little less than good information, IMHO.

Shades...the sync issue has kept me from Android for now but I don't suspect it will be an issue for long. wink.gif

Sync services

iSycn supported phones (my Sony Ericsson)

I've read that teradesk can sycn android to mac????
http://www.teradesk.com/tera/about.html

I used sugarsycn on my Linux laptop which may have something in the future for Android.

I heard that Bluetooth in the Hero can only be used with a headset?
Do you know if that's true?

The "rumors" of the new phone also mention a smaller screen which I don't think is a good idea especially since the Droid is actually larger than the iPhone present screen.  Perhaps Apple will offer two versions... Thinking.gif

I think that's unfortunate and will give Android a market edge going forward. MS Mobile 6.5 is moving in the right direction but loosing share to Android. Nokia is sill #1 globally, and are moving to Android. Blackberry is holding it's own in the business sector but that's a thin advantage as both Apple and Android grow.

They need to move away from the exclusive contract as fast as they can... wink.gif
Unlimited phone, web, and messaging is $79 a month at T-mobile. Sprint is moving the price point to meet that challenge. A merger of TMO and Sprint would make it the largest service in the world, at a price point that would be attractive to the emerging market.
