I'll bet this is in response to the new Droid GPS map software.  smile.gif

TeleNav is the option for Android and T-Mobile phones, I have it on my Sony Ericsson.

You can also use the built in GPS locater and Google maps for free. My phone has a speech option that coordinates with a Blue Ant headset...so on paper it should respond to voice commands without TeleNav... but I've not tried it yet.

I've always enjoyed my in-car TomTom, especially the big (relatively speaking) screen, but I'm really beyond the days where I walk that much in or about strange venues, so that "navigation" from within my iPhone would be in any way valuable. I surely wish I had had it one stormy night in Stuttgart, in 1977, however.  rolleyes.gif

How are people actually using iPhone's TomTom? Isn't the screen too small? Does one really need that much technology to locate a Thai Restaurant in Manhattan?

Ophthalmological PostScript: I'm absolutely amazed how bright the TomTom XL display is, following my cataract removal 2 weeks ago!

PS Nr. 2: And then there's this Insider mash note:

While looking at new cars the subject of a navigation system came up...for 2 grand and I thought that I could do better with a portable. I tested in my Blackberry ...and figure it would be useful for both of us. Wanting to move into a smartphone with Voice Dial technology to get away from holding the phone while driving....expecting that in time the laws will require handfree phones  I could kill two birds with one phone.

The GPS shows a broad map and as you approach the address you can zoom to the pinpoint location...visually. On the audio side you can just listen to the instructions and turn on command. We drive throughout 4 counties regularly so it comes in handy.
