For use by growing 16 year-old for remaining High School and probable College years. ~5 - 6 years.

1. <Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo> 160GB, 5400 HD with "new" battery

2. <Refurbished MacBook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Aluminum> 250GB, 5400 HD with "old" Lithium-polymer battery

Both cost $1,000, non-removable batteries (I assume the "old" one is not), same bus speed (1066), same video capabilities, two USB 2.0 ports, LED backlit screens, illuminated keyboards, aluminum unibodies, 3MB L3 cache, AppleCare qualified, etc.

#1 has smaller HD and slower CPU. But it has 1 FW and one SD card slot and supports up to 8GB.
#2 has no FW or SD card slot and supports 'only' 4GB. But it has larger HD and faster CPU.

Anyone have a coin?

I think the like larger drive but I also like the FireWire. I'm just not sure if the FW is worth losing the marginally faster CPU. The extra speed would probably be lost with any external transfer, even though that might be a very limited occurrence. dntknw.gif I don't think it would be that hard to upgrade the HD after the AC runs out. And the card slot offers some expansion capabilities. Thinking.gif

I would get #1. The FW port can be used for backups to an external HD. The SD slot is a plus.

Definitely #1.  It is the newest MacBook Pro at 13" (the other is the previous model).  

I bought this one for my Dad and it is one sweet machine.  yes.gif

OK! Two votes for #1. I wonder if that was a Freudian induced idea to put in the number one position? blush-anim-cl.gif laugh.gif I like it being called "Sweet" it will certainly be used by a very sweet young lady! (We don't seem to have a 'buttons popping" emoticon... rofl.gif )

Ordered a new 13" MBP yesterday. Added 2GB Ram ($100) and iWorks ($49). Unfortunately, we have to pay tax!
