Netscape 7.0 Mail Problems

I have a G4 PowerMac running OS 10.2.4. I use Netscape 7.0 for all my mail accounts - and have loved it up to this point. I haven't had any problems until yesterday when I started up and all my mail accounts were gone along with my stored passwords in the password manager. I set up all new mail accounts and reinstalled netscape from the CD (after trashing the previous version). I can receive mail but I can't reply or compose a new message. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Hi. I don't use Netscape so I'm not sure.    

Had a similar problem recently with Outlook Express and Norton Disk Doctor found a corrupt cache.

I trashed that and everything worked.

This was in OS 9.x by the way.

Maybe a Netscape user can think of something.

Thanks, Kelly.  I had to break down and call Netscape support.  Basically, I had to recreate a profile and set up all my email accounts from scratch.  Everything seems to be in working order now.  I spent two days trying to get everything straightened out. That wasn't any fun at all....

I use Netscape 7.0.1 . I'm also using 9x.

I don't know what it could be Marina. I periodically trash my Cache folder, especially when I'm doing disk maintenence with Norton's and DiskWarrior.

In 9x you can trash it any old time and then restart Netscape and Netscape will build a new one. Sometimes they do get corrupted.

It seems to me that from what I see here and the Netscape forum on the WindowsBBS that the "thorn" in side with NS7.x is definately the email... seems to be causing the most problems right now.

What I would do is back up your user profile while you have a fresh one and do that periodically as long as it's working well, so you don't have to go through all that again "hopefully".

Gary is right about keeping the cache cleaned up... being on cable I never even use one but stuff still gets put in it... another one to keep under control is the history.
