OT: You Canucks, listen up!
« on: June 08, 2003, 01:10:27 PM »
OK, here's the setup:

Been playing with my new DV-camera while I was in Canada honeymooning and visiting the in-laws. Now I'm going to start my project and make my first iMovie (and iDVD).

So why do I need you, dear Canucks??

Well, you know.... I need help with fun music that is connecte to Canada. All I can think if is "Blame Canada" with South Park, but I'm sure there's much more, and maybe stuff that's more serious than that, that could perhaps accompany the beautiful pictures from Niagara Falls etc.

So, could you guys perhaps guide me in this Canada-music jungle and give me some good titles and artists to look for?

PALEEEEEEEEEEZE!  wub.gif

I could only find the lyrics, don't know if an .mp3 or something like that is available somewhere:

Maple Leaf Forever

... we are not a British colony anymore, but I still like the tune...

What's "Blame Canada"?  huh.gif  Haven't heard that one...  tongue.gif

BTW... Happy to hear you had a good holiday and had a safe trip!  clap.gif

Hi Cyberpet,

You could look for a song called "Canada" it"s by Bobby Jimby.  It was the theme song forour Centenary celebrations in 1967.  Every Canuck also knows the theme from "Hockey Night in Canada" You might find that at WWW.NHL.com.  I shall think on it some more and get back to you eh!

Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

I hope you had a great time...wait, you did have a great time...saw the pics.

Don't know any Canada specific sound tracks you could use, but if you have .Mac, check out the music in the Software/Extras/FreePlayMusic folder on your iDisk.

Petra, here's a few links to get you started digging up those Canuck songs:

http://www.songsforteaching.com/Canada.html

(Ben will remember some of these from school!)

And as mentioned, there's the Hockey Night in Canada theme, and others like "Bud the Spud" (PEI), A Place to Stand (Ontario), Gordon Lightfoots "Canadian Railroad Trilogy"...

There's an absolutely phenomenal list here:

http://members.shaw.ca/kcic1/songs.html

You'd need to get Ben to help you figure out what to use - a lot of it is more obscure than well-known.

I can't believe "When the ice-worms nest again" is on there! We sang that at summer camp!!!

You will have to look for the MP3 files of the songs elsewhere, but it might be a good starting place.

For a list of Canadian bands/musicians:

Hey Petra,

There is a song by Blues Traveler with a really cool beat.  It's called "Canadian Rose."  I don't know what the song is REALLY about, but I like it!  The chorus is "She called me an ugly american and I called her my canadian rose..."  You can check the lyrics at www.letssingit.com.  Type in "Blues Travler" and select "search by artists name" and you will find the lyrics.  If you have access to iTunes music store you can preview the song there.

Good luck with your movie!

Thanks for all the links! Now I just need to figure out how to get the actual songs I need. Problem is the Apple MusicStore only works in the US, not even in Canada. Go figure!

So if anyone of you have a recording that you might want to lend me, please let me know. At least accoring to swedish law you're allowed to make a recording to give away a copy to family and close friends. Not sure how it works on the other side of the pond, but at least it wouldn't break any laws here if you consider me as a friend.  wub.gif

Wow... Paddy amazes me!  notworthy.gif

I wouldn't have even known where to look for that list of music... to my embarrassment...  blush-anim-cl.gif

Not sure what the law is here Petra... I do know it's allowed to make one copy of software etc for archival, backup purposes. That's for Canada, dunno about the US... think it's the same as most "EULA's" read the same... smile.gif
