My two sons (one from Denver and one from Wichita) met me in NYC last weekend, where we all competed in the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. The event is hosted by Will Shortz, puzzle editor for the New York Times. He also does a show on NPR.
How did I do? Well, I ranked 579 out of 643 participants, which means that only 10% had lower total scores than I did. Not a stellar performance on my part. Remember, these are people from all over the country who take their crosswords seriously.
But it was fun, and it was great to be able to spend some quality time with "my boys" (both over 50 years old). We went a day early and did some touristy things. Went to the Statue of Liberty and Rockefeller Center, as well as Wall Street and Times Square. Found out that the NYC subway system is not very friendly to an out-of-shape 79-year-old.
Any other cruciverbalists out there?
