I took a deep breath last Friday and decided to install SL on Judy's MBP. She was out of town and I figured I had enough time to re-install if things went awry. (Sure!
)
Actually, after confirming recent back ups (of several type and places) the install went very smoothly (she was using 10.5.8, I think).
Not so fast! When she got home Sunday and got around to checking her email, she wondered why she had no new emails since last…Friday afternoon…
Let's see, install new OS, Mail updated (along with dozens of other Apple apps, now Mail can send but not receive… Related? Oh no, just a mere coincidence!
Rebuild Mailboxes, archive plist, check Apple Forums, re-enter account info, etc. Nothing. Prepare to move into doghouse…
Finally, I notice that her Junk mail box has nearly a hundred unread messages. OK, she never seems to clean that stuff out of there, at least I can fix that… What?! There's all the stuff that came in after the install of SL! What went wrong with Spamsieve? I'll just Select All and reapply the Rules. Well, that was a waste of time. Maybe I need to just tell Spamsieve to treat that stuff as "good?" Aha! There are no menu items for it, anymore!
Go to the C-Command site and start the download. Well, looky there, the download window shows I've already done that…
Then I hear a little voice screaming, "Yeah, you
did download it, but you never installed the plug in into Mail, stupid!"
Long story short, when you discover a poroblem, slow down, try to reconstruct what you may have done in the last few days, look at the app that may have other indications as to what happened and even methods to fix things and slow down! And if you change/update/upgrade the OS, remember there will be third-party apps that may need upgrading, also.
And don’t forget to install them after downloading them.
