Neighborhood Intruder - A Bobcat
« on: March 05, 2010, 05:41:23 PM »
This morning at 9AM, the doorbell rang. A woman said she saw a bobcat stalking a squirrel in our front yard, but that the bobcat went down the driveway as she came to our front door. She was worried that we may have a cat or a small dog (we don't), that would be easy prey. We live in the city and not near any wooded area. However, we do live on a creek.

I got my camera and the bobcat went over the back fence down toward the creek. I managed to get the attached picture.
Cheers, Tom

Wow - not an intruder I'd like to encounter. The bears, raccoons, plant destroying deer and coyotes are enough for me. wink.gif

Cute kitty.  smile.gif

They had to euthanize a bear in a north Jersey town yesterday after he killed a family's 16 year old dog. They let the dog out in the backyard to do its business never expecting a bear. Turned out the bear had been living under a neighbor's deck.

We are the intruders of course.

Wow. What a gorgeous cat!

Bobcat info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobcat

They're more adaptable than I thought - they are found on urban fringes. Presumably your creek was the bobcat "highway" - probably from a less populated area. Or maybe he was a friend of this one:

QUOTE
The sight of a bobcat likely startled drivers, but BARC officials said there was little chance of harm from the reclusive animal. Their diet mainly consists of birds and small mammals — not commuters.
