Hello All,

? Does anyone know why my old Mac has a black outline around the perimeter.  I only have a 14" monitor to begin with and this outline takes up about an inch of space total.

Can I change it or am I stuck with it?

Thanks.

Good afternoon, Myrna:

That black border . . . if it's uniform . . . is not uncommon in monitors that use a cathode ray tube (CRT) similar to your TV. If the picture is clear, doesn't flicker, and seems to carry accurate colors, I'd ignore the border. One seldom gets (in a CRT) a picture of the size in inches proclaimed in the ads.

Kelly's reference is to a very reliable merchant. Have no fear.

It's been no less than fascinating to see how fast you have mastered a number of the elements of becoming a Mac-ster. You've done very well, because you appear to be not only a quick observer, but your ability and willingness to engage this TS Gang is remarkable and reassuring.

We all, as has already been said, wish you well in your unfolding medical procedures, while we continue do what we can to get you and your 6100 zipping along  - - at it's speed limit!

Your queries have turned out a lot of our great folks in a delightful display of interest, enthusiasm, and helpfulness . . . spanning at least two continents.   clap.gif

I'm working in Honolulu this coming week, so Al and I will have breakfast together on Wednesday, and you can be sure you will be on our agenda.

Best wishes.

RHP

Aloha Dick,
I only wish I could be out basking in a tropical paradise - home of the original Charlie Chan and his innumerable children.
But, I digress ( I am a follower of most all mysteries, mostly old),

I am happy that you arrived safely in Honolulu.

I am eager to learn more about this RAM thing.  It seems that if I wish to download and avoid a possible computer "freeze", I should buy more memory.  It seems like a goal I can reach.

I forgot that you could find a way via internet to communicate with the board, no matter where you were.  Do you have a notebook?

I have the weekend off from Radiation - but Monday through Friday I get to do the whole thing all over again.

I am also trying to prepare for the 8th Grade Graduation Mass - I sing in the Choir, the  Chant for the "Ave Maria" and other pieces.  It is challenging.  My husband has been so busy with the preparations, as it is his class that is graduating.

Happy Fathers Day to you in advance.  Please tell Al I said "Aloha"  and I look forward to seeing your Posts.

Thank you for your many kindnesses on my behalf.  The TS members have really been welcoming.  Everyone has shared their experience, strength and hope with me.  I am richly blessed.

Don't forget to take pictures!

Sincerely,
Myrna

clap.gif  Kelly,

What a great link!  You have done it again.  So it looks like SIMMS for my old Mac.

I will try to get some
more memory as one of my first computer supplies priorities.

I am now making a list of all I need.

It is so exciting for me and I can't wait to get started.

Thank you so much for your continued help.

Afternoon All,

I just thought you might like to know the following:

I went to the Apple website PRIOR to TS.
I didn't know if there was a charge for using their site.  I looked everywhere for information concerning any fees. (You all know my situation, if you have been following the threads).  Finally, I used the "contact us" to send a query about fees.

The Searchmaster, replied with:

No fee for ID, No fee for discussion, Mac is pay for play.

Well, it just kind of left me cold...if you  know what I mean.  No warm fuzzies there!

Hi MrsLop

Greetings from old England.... You've already discovered what a wonderfully friendly and helpful bunch the folks on TS are. Let me just add my good wishes from the other side of the pond. Oh, and I'm sure you've already been told this but "there is no such thing as a stupid question", so ask away!
(Afraid I do much more asking than answering... biggrin.gif )

Myrna. Hello. smile.gif

If you do decide to buy RAM.

I recommend you buy those exact ones from that exact place.

Apple has AppleCare. It goes with a new computer for a certain period of time.

Then you can get extensions for a fee.

It's another way for them to make money and stay in business.

You have no need for it.

Their Knowledge Base is free to search.

http://www.apple.com/find/sitemap.html

They really are pretty nice In My Opinion.

At least as nice as any other multi-billion dollar company. smile.gif

Hello MrsLop,

Been following your entrance into the world of Macs are you are doing just fine.

One little comment about your screen and the black border you see. If it is only an eighth to a quarter of an inch wide all the way around then it may just be the natural border on all CRTs as RHP said. If it is more than that you may be able to enlarge the image by fiddling with any buttons you might have on the monitor. Older monitors don't have all the geometry settings that the newer ones have but since you already found the contrast and brightness buttons take a look and see if there is another one that may expand the picture. It may say "zoom" or similar or maybe nothing at all. Give it a try.

Good Morning to All,

HIGHMAC, kelly and krissel,
Thank you for yesterday's replies.

I am off to sing with my Choir this morning.  My husband's 8th Grade class is Graduating today.  Every year my choir sings at their Graduation Mass.

Yesterday, I was trying to sing the chant like "Ave Maria" and master that.  Since coming to the TS Forum, I fell behind in my music for todays Graduation Program.  I hope the Angels sing with us today, as it is not easy.

Please stay tuned for the continuing " The Adventures of Mrs Lop in Mac Land."  I fully intend to expand my RAM,
AND upgrade to a different version of Mac.
Of course, kelly et al have provided the links for me to perform these feats.  I need to connect the "old" Mac to an ISP   and it seems I have too old a version to get service for it.  One of my TS friends did a little research for me and the MSN One Plan does not support my "old" Mac.
Since I already have WebTV/MSN I thought that I could get the discount:
No new version = no discount, for he One Plan

I hope to join you all later on.  Prayers and good thoughts cheerfully accepted.

Joyfully,

Good Morning All,

In the front of the panel to my Processor there is a CD drawer and beside it is an opening Floppy Disks.
Some of you may remember that I removed the cover to take down whatever information was printed on the inside of my Processor.  So, I found out what they are, but not what they do.
What are they used for?

Good Evening All,

It has been a very exciting week, and I owe a great deal to you TS members for walking me through my entre to the world according to mac.
and computers.

Learning through the Tutorials available is not going as quickly for me.  I'll keep trying though.  I am hopeful.

kelly has given me so many links in the past week.  I have been using them to research all day.

Just noticed noone answered your question about the CD tray and Floppy drive. Have you figured out what they are for yet from your reading?

Evening krissel,

No. I haven't received my books yet.  The Tutorial that I was reading did not include Basic Parts of the Computer.  Ironic isn't it?

I own a CD player so I know that it takes CDs.  I just don't know what kind I am supposed to use.  In snooping around some of the things that already exist in the System, I get a message on the screen that it is missing.

By the way, thanx.gif  for noticing that the ?'s weren't answered.
