Can't find iTunes music

Why don't you see what's in that "Previous iTunes Library?" If their all duplicates, dump them.

I don't use iTunes more than once or twice a month, but I thought it had some kind of find and delete duplicates in one of it's menus. Have you looked at all those?

Or

Go back to your original thread and follow the instructions more thoroughly. With a detailed set of instructions it's all the more likely one will be missed. dntknw.gif A lot of that "nine page" document was for Windows users, just delete all that. Trim out the trivia and the "by the way, did you know" parts as well. Those instructions work, apparently, but the text is crammed full of not-needed-to-know info. Once you take the time to condense it to the bare minimum, you will have read it enough to understand exactly what do do and when to do it. What I'm suggesting is starting from scratch, attempting to solve a problem when there is no known cause is one of the hardest type to solve. Start from a known, good position and then work exactingly from there to the end. In the end, you will have a completed set up and probably faster than trying one and then another step, followed by yet another. That's my opinion, anyway. No need to mail the $ 0.000001372. tease.gif

Raven, hold on - I think all you need to do is use "Display Duplicates" in iTunes. Sounds like you've gotten rid of the actual duplicate music files - you've just got duplicate track listings.

See: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1579/how_to...media_library_/

Since "Display Duplicates" only shows you all the duplicates, and sorting through and deleting every other one could be tedious, you might want to run this script:

http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/dupin.php

I've got 880 dupes in my library/track listing, but most of them are actually not exactly the same track. (still need to sort through it though!)tongue.gif

END OF STORY!...
My solution was found here: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/duplicates.php
Case 7 & 8.

Thanks to everyone for helping out. I wanna say how complex and annoying this situation was. I spent some 15+ hours trying to sort all this out and read all the documents and links to finally get it right. Considering that iTunes has gone thru 9 versions, why would Apple have kept this so complicated? The iPhoto process to transfer files was so much simpler. But a 9 page article on "Transferring your iTunes Library"? KISS, Apple!

My only consolation was that there are many people in the same situation trying many different solutions...

Aside, in the mid 1990s I was doing some design and consulting work for a new PC store in town. The keen owner wanted me to learn DOS. I wasn't interested. I heard that Macs were easier to learn and I purchased my first one with OS8. The nearest Apple store is still 500 miles away. Macs have come a long way since then, but my argument still stands... I shouldn't have to learn how electrons work along a cable for me to turn on a light bulb. The Mac OS is much more stable today; Migration Assistant worked like a breeze when I needed that recently; I haven't had to use DiskWarrior in a long time; etc. As it all should. But iTunes needs some work to keep it simpler!

THANKS AGAIN to TS and all you people with 1000's of posts who constantly keep helping. Apple should be paying you! :-)

PS. Still a few more questions coming on related matters!
