I read somewhere that to remedy the problem, one simply adds the "bumper" to the phone (granted, it's a $29 added expense, but a temporary fix until Apple corrects the problem).

When will people learn to keep duct tape and baling wire handy?! dntknw.gif Ain't nothin' worth fixin' that hit don't! rofl.gif

I'm bettin' that all the lab testing on this model was done with lab-coated techs wearing soft cloth gloves! And the floor must have been covered with non-conducting carpet. Otherwise, they would never have had glass corners exposed to other hard surfaces...like concrete! I never drop mine on anything soft! eek2.gif Fortunately, it's only a 3G and in a nice leather pouch. Thinking.gif

I don't care what Consumer Reports says. As soon as Verizon and Apple make a deal and the former starts selling the iPhone...I'm getting one!!!

I believe it was only today that I read a headline stating that "truth" is not the way to convince people about any topic. Sounds like that came straight from a PR company. Thinking.gif But the fact is, unless Apple stops making these kinds of mistakes (lack of truthfulness, slow and less than convincing responses, etc.), people will jump ship faster than can be counted. Apple, because of its outstanding reputation for quality and "It just works" cannot afford to deliver standard devices. People expect them to be premium, industry-leading, trend-changing, not 'standard.' They set the bar very high. People don't really care if they don't make it over, they'll simply move on to the next 'leader,' assuming there is one.

Found this comment on a site discussing Apple's "poor attitude".

Most likely Apple will offer free bumpers to those who want them. In bulk, it would probably only cost them a buck each. Easy and cheap solution.

These articles are an attempt to drop the stock prior to earnings so the shorts can make a killing and then buy in at a low price.
Typical manipulation with Consumer Reports acting as a shill.  They also benefit by all the new membership payments that online visitors will have to pay to see the review. Cheap tactics for sure.  Their advice has become less an less valuable lately. If you take the time to read consumers' reviews of products you'll find that they don't agree with the so called expert conclusions. Many items that got good marks turned out to be faulty and not reliable. I have a membership and often check out their articles only as a starting point but never assume their choice is the best.

Yes, Consumer Reports is not perfect but, as you said, it's a starting point. Over the years, I have found some of their recommendations to be right on and some not. It boils down to not having unquestioning faith in anything that anybody says. Read different opinions, take a test drive, ask around and then judge for yourself.

Wrong attitude!!! When Judy tells me I shouldn't do something I have to have faith that I shouldn't! nono.gif rofl.gif scram.gif

I have NO faith in the stock market, at least the parts controlled by bank, brokers and traders (if there are any other parts, I might consider giving them the benifit of the doubt). But I don't put to much belief n most conspiricy theories, either. While I'm sure that many are glad to see any stock's price decline, at least at certain times, I don't think there's any 'colusion' between CR and any group of stock owners. Just people taking advantage of favorable conditions, at least for those who have faith in thier brokers, traders and/or banks! laughhard.gif

It's Apple's 'foot' and it appears they have a pretty good aim! Ouch!!!
