Daisy and I went fishing with the dogs (a sort of dogwalk and fishing trip combined).

Be-Anne tried to dive in every time one of us cast. Then my rod broke - it was on the way out anyway. So Daisy gave me her rod and tidied out the fishing bag instead.

Meanwhile we had a "discussion" about her new Raybans that I had no idea she had bought. Apparently I knew this. I think not!

Anywho, I caught a fish. Ok so it is not the biggest and the dogs did try and help! I am most chuffed.

Guess what's for supper tonight ?...............................................

Pork Chops!

How did you prepare it, and how did it taste?

"Chuffed?" That's an unfamiliar word to me. Please translate for this American midwesterner.

Severely dischuffed is a Shetland phrase I believe! - the opposite!

Cooked the trout in browned butter. It was delicious!

The others had the pork chops for obvious reasons!

All four bites?!

Not much of a pond-side fisherman, myself...not enough patience!

But I certainly did enjoy a trip we made with another family and our four kids more than 30 years ago. We fished for trout just below the outlet of a very large lake in the Ozark "Mountains" of NE Arkansas. High enough altitude that there were no mosquitoes, even in July! Water so cold that nothing else lived in it. So clear you could watch the trout sneak up on the bait! And we gutted them right in the flowing water and they were kept chilled better than in a refrigerator! We had the best lunch ever with those fish and the beautiful, and very secluded surroundings! Couldn't even see any other lights at night, except for the ones in the sky!!!

Of course, we had not yet been to Ireland at that time...

Just for fun, I went to Google maps and see that there has been a little development since my visit. But I put a marker about at the spot we fished the river. Another marker is on the cabin we stayed in, the only one at the time. <Closest large town>

That was Tuesday.

It has been raining for the last 24 hours solidly. No let up. Dogs refused to go out unless I went too. Absolutely horrible, but hopefully the grass will grow now. We have 3 more days of this rain.

Very attractive specimen; it's been awhile but for me but I think it looks like a brownie (brown trout); nice specked pattern. I've caught native brown and rainbow in Colorado and a few other places (Utah, Wyoming) when I was in my 20's. Tell me if I'm right about the species! It seems more and more like I should save up my pennies (pence?) and come visit in your part of the world!

You are right, t'is a brown trout!

George, there was no other that got away! That is about as big as I get with my fishing. I thinkt he 3 dogs swimming in the loch and me singing along to my iPod might have something to do with it, plus the "discussion" about the new purchased but not-to-my-knowledge Raybans!

It's hard to judge size and I've no idea what people keep and send back in the Shetlands but I've probably eaten that small; usually caught several because they empty the hatchery truck in the same places. Good eating; who needs pork chops! I don't suppose you can say it was native or wild or whatever!

The trout are native.

The pork chops are home grown and butchered - it was a toss up! The fish won!

Do come and stay Gunug! We have a holiday home just waiting for anyone who fancies a trip north!

Good hunting too, and it even has its own water mill!

No television, mobile phone service only and total peace and quiet!

My wife and I applied for passports a few days ago (her first, my third). By mid-August, it will be "Look out, World, here we come!"

Scotland appeals to me, because that's my ancestral home. I met some Boyds in Moffatt when I was there several years ago.

Your B&B looks like our kind of place.

I finally decided that the brown-ended animal is not an alien but a dog, head deep in what may be a rabbit hole?!

The house looks like a great place! Judy and I try to avoid any kind of 'hotel' if at all possible! First, one can meet the locals much easier in a B & B. Second, no two look alike. Three, the service is usually far superior! And the food is real, fresh and homemade! Of course, there is always that 5%...we just don't go back to those, but even those provide laughable memories, even if the humor may take a few years to "age!"
