It's official.

Microsloth will no longer be developing IE for the Mac. They'll issue security updates for IE, but no new features. Of course, they're basically getting out of the stand-alone browser business anyway, having announced that the next version of Windoze will have a completely integrated browser.

No big loss...a few more bug fixes in Safari that will allow me to use it for everything (still can't really do online banking at Fleet...no logout button among other problems!) and we're away to the races.

In the mean time, Mozilla and Camino can handle most of what Safari cannot.

Gee. They just can't win.

They get picked on for Browser Integration.

And now for Browser Disintegration.

Just a rumour so far as I know right now, but apparently Netscape may be dropping out of the browser game too.

Good thing... all the Mozilla based browsers will continue, bad thing... I haven't found a single one that will work with Classic MacOS, only OS X...

great, i won't regret don't seeing IE on mac anymore.
I'm using Safari from the start (nearly, i actually dumped it at the start, lol).

Considering how much money Microsloth has, it doesn't surprise me that they would stop something free, IE for Macs.

Problem I forsee is any new web standards would render IE obsolete pretty fast. Recently I started using Safari on a regular basis, but I find as I use it more in different sites over time, it still is not complete and has some issues, I end up pulling up IE to the rescue. In the future even that may not work. Hopefully Safari will be complete by then.

Microsoft won't be improving IE but doesn't mean we can't continue using the last version for the Mac.

Reading Paddy's post makes me wonder if Apple knew this was going to happen, which is why they created Safari. Or, did Microsoft stop IE for Mac because of Safari.

As i read on a dutch website, Microsoft aknowledged that they can not improve IE on OsX without have to rewrite the entire deal, in order for it to be optimized and able to work at the latest webdeveloments.
There for, M$$ scraps IE for Osx, as they never will reach the speed and souplesse that Safari (and Camino) now offer.
They even said that they will leave the browser on Mac open for Apple itself.

I guess they felt happy at Cuppertino, a public anouncement that they are "defeated"

I think M$ is just waiting to see the finished Safari browser so they can copy it only adding their own crummy graphics.

I don't think they understand OSX well enough to write for it. Notice how MacSoft games for OS10 are nonexistant.

I have to use IE to view Techsurvivors now, my Netscape 4.7 just doesn't seem to work well here at all.

I don't like Safari and I don't like IE, so I sure hope that Camino will continue being developed since that's the only browser I use now. Well ok, I do use IE once a month when I have to pay my bills, but I know it's possible to fool my bank into thinking Camino is an IE browser but I never got around fixing that problem yet.

I don't like that brushed metal theme and I don't like how Safari renders some sites I visit daily. So unless they fix a lot of those bugs I'm going to stick with Camino.

jcarter... Netscape4.x doesn't work very well at all with this site... it's the style sheets...

If you feel inclined to upgrade to NS7.02 you should find it works fine...

I still like and use NS4.76 myself, but rely on Opera 5 for here...

I know, i didn't liked the metal look at first, cause i found my little iMac's screen was filled with metal now (Safari, iChat, QuickTime and iTunes... only QT isn't open constantly).
I went do download this SafariNoBruxh which gives it the normal OsX interface

In OS X, the normal window can only be dragged by the title bar, unlike in Classic where one could place the cursor on the frame of the window and drag away. But in those OS X apps with the brushed metal, one can drag by placing the cursor on any piece of metal, including the bottom border of Safari (kinda convenient sometimes).

True, but for me, at that time it was just worth it, it's just how you are used to change winows places.
Also, on a 14" iMac you don't have much space to play around anyway
