Please answer that query carefully without reading, first, AirBusDriver's comprehensive. multi-volume review of the data base.   whistling.gif

Actually, I think this question should have a sinple answer (I hope) but it clearly 1) has escaped me, 2) is not self-evident.

I'm running Mail 4.3 on 10.6.4,

From time to time I purge my "Sent" Folder. That's now overdue –  w/1357 messages therein going back to last September. I have a very hazy memory (possibly a fantasy) that earlier SENT Folders had a "To" column in the folder's window display. This one seems only to have a "From".

Since I'm the only dispatching correspondent, the only Account Holder using this Mac, that's not too helpful for efficient archiving vs deleting.

Shouldn't I, somehow, be able to get a "To" column in that window?

Huh? steprake.gif

Ooops

Wait-a-minute . . . wait-a-minute.

I just went back, reopened the window and looked at SENT. Now it has a "To" heading where "From" used to be.

How in the devil did that happen?

I had played with the column headings looking for a "To" before I wrote the TeeEss query, but it didn't show during that process.

Wot happened?

Is there some kind of hidden toggle in there?

Just a theory, Dick..... first time you went to the 'sent' folder you had actually clicked on the 'inbox' without registering that fact. Second time, you DID go to the 'sent' folder.

I've done similar things before now and Caroline swears she's seen a big lightbulb switch on over my head doh.gif biggrin.gif

But, but, you don't understand, Neil. I never make missteakes!

Actually, this has been puzzling me for a long time – months at least. At this point, however, I'm sure (after last night's RW/OL – revelation w/o lightbulb) I'm sure there's a toggle in there, somewhere.

No film @ 11. but I will re-port when I find it.

Whatever.

Problem (apparently) solved:

There is, I guess you'd call it, a "hidden toggle". Not in a side bar, not in the ribbon bar, but in the action of alternately opening successive SENT, and then INBOX windows.

If, upon opening MAIL in SENT, the From label is all I find in my version, however it was established. By closing SENT and then opening/closing INBOX upon re-opening SENT the "To" has magically replaced "From" . . . which, I would assert is what most people would prefer to see therein!  Thinking.gif

I certainly appreciated this valuable symposium. whistling.gif

Mayhap, a near-solilouqy.  rolleyes.gif

Dick,

When you think about it, this is only logical.

In the 'Sent' folder you are the one that sent them, and the recipient is the one you sent them to.

In the 'Inbox' folder, you received the message from 'whoever'.

Now, ain't that logical? biggrin.gif

Yup, but where wuz you when I needed you?

Whoever said logic would extract one successfully from an episode of neurotic tail-chasing?

Whoever said "thinking" might be required?

The only problem with your "construction" is that it doesn't illuminate the "toggling" that occurs ONLY with opening/closing successive windows, and then it does so invariably.

Been over to Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen, lately? Every time I recall our iChatting w/George from real, rural Ohio (from a "hot-Amish-spot") to Newcastle upon Tyne, while the rest of the patrons were enjoying their "broasted chicken", I can't help but smile.
