we are now in Aleppo having been to Damascus and Palmyra, at present our viewing of sights is restricted in that we have been struck with the dreaded "lurgi" and Rhoda is confined to bed and has been there  two days  and tomorrow we are on our way to Homs and then to Jordan. if things improve will try to post later in the week.
Is this a first from North Africa?
George

Don't know about a first, but sorry your wife isn't feeling too well. Hope she's back up and around soon. Enjoy the rest of your travels.

The George's Syria/Jordan connection has got me to thinking, where is the most remote/unusual wifi access people have used.

George:

Give Rhoda best wishes from Lil and myself. So sorry for the "interruption" of the journey.

At least she's more than qualified to assess the care she's receiving . . .from you and others!

Hugs to Rhoda and I hope her gippy tummy goes.

Palmyra!  Fantastic.

Did I write from Kathmandu?  I can't remember!  I even found an Apple shop there too!  Off you go George, find the Syrian Apple Mac store!

OK, OK, George and Francis.

Those of us inhabiting the Colonies need assistance from time to time in the argot of the Mother Country and her Tongue.

But, as expected, it's, tah dum, Google to-the-rescue . . .
The Deaded Lurgi here

and its fascinating etymology

Equally . . . uh . . . compelling . . . is the history of the conception, so to speak, of the Goons, as in The Goon Show.
QUOTE
(Spike) Milligan and Harry Secombe became friends while serving in the Royal Artillery during World War II. Famously, Milligan first encountered Secombe after Gunner Milligan's artillery unit accidentally allowed a large howitzer to roll off a cliff - under which Secombe was sitting in a small wireless truck: "Suddenly there was a terrible noise as some monstrous object fell from the sky quite close to us. There was considerable confusion, and in the middle of it all the flap of the truck was pushed open and a young, helmeted idiot asked 'Anybody see a gun?' It was Milligan...".[11] Secombe's answer to that question was "What colour was it?". Spike met Peter Sellers after the war at the Hackney Empire, where Secombe was performing, and the three became close friends.[12]

So there!

It's truly a shame how the British have let their English deteriorate since the war... inspect.gif nono.gif tears.gif
