Has anyone any knowledge about itouch. My son has had one for the past 2 years and it failed to switch on this morning. It will not activate when the earphones are plugged in. It is not a white screen failure. The only noise that emanates, is a beep when the charger is plugged in. The question is, bin it or repair it?

I've not had the same problem... but one similar. There is a method of 'resetting / restarting' the iTouch that may help you out.....
This link gives instructions on both the 'soft & hard' resets.

Hope you can recover the iTouch for your son.

Hi Bob - some useful stuff on that site

It's clear the writer is a PC user, and he's done quite a good comparison piece between the iPod classic and Zune 120. It comes across as a genuine attempt to list the advantages and snags of each device without any M$- or Apple-bashing. Makes an interesting read, anyway.

AAHH So very true, but I can vouch for the fact the the one in our (read her) house is referred to as her iTouch almost 100 percent of the time. What can I say??

Seems to work ok now matter what she calls it.

Back on topic - my iPod Touch (happy, Jim?

)- seems to have a dying battery. Fully charged Saturday, showed full charge yesterday when switched off and now completely flat.

Is there any way of checking battery condition when it's plugged in to the iMac? I can't find one.

Guess it could be an excuse to visit the Apple Store for a second opinion

In reply to my own post..... found an item here about problems with gen 2 and 3 iPod Touches after installing the latest OS. Seems if you leave wi-fi on it keeps the connection even after the device is switched off, resulting in a drained battery.

I'll try switching off iPod's wi-fi when not in use and see if that makes a difference.

Wow, Neil, did you read through those 91 pages of comments? There is a major problem with the 4.x iOS for iPhone/Pod. Even some of the new iPod Touches experience the problem.

Aside from trying to downgrade to an earlier iOS (not easy), going through all kinds of shenanigans seems to be the only way to try to bring back battery life. There must have been a dozen different possible means to "fix" or help the problem but none is universal for everyone.

Boy, am I glad I've been lazy and not upgraded to the new iOS.
