Stupid Am I

I purchased a refurbished E Mac G4/700 from Apple store. They listed everything that was in this Mac, a long, long list.
But......they did NOT list what was NOT in this Mac!!!!
Made the buy on 4/29. Received it on 5/4. Did not open carton since I was scheduled for a hip replacement on 5/8. Discharged from hospital 5/15. Went right to bed, able to get up for meals and watching TV, not much else.
It was about June 4 (+ -) that I opened the carton to see my new Mac and another week to make CDs of the stuff that I wanted to save for the new comp. So, I then dismantled my old friend (6400) and packed it up to give to my grandson. I then bought and installed an additional ram card to add to the 128 in the Emac. Then placing the machine on my desk, noticed that where all the connections are made on the side, there was an icon for a telephone modem BUT no port, not even an opening in the housing for a port.
Then started phone calls to Apple. Their regulations state that exchanges or refunds can only be made within 10 days of receipt of the unit. They said that a modem was not listed on the items included list. I sure as H....didn't notice that!!!!!
So, a trip to Fry's Electronics for a USB modem, and a USB hub was required and the money saved by buying a refurbished unit went down the drain.

You should always check to see what is and IS NOT included on any purchases, and OPEN the product when you get it home in case you have a complaint. Can't blame anyone but yourself for this one sad.gif

Yeah. I'm well aware that the lowest end emacs don't have a Modem. smile.gif

Unless you bought a Gold Plated Modem and Hub you probably did ok.

Still saved some money over the higher models. Just a few dollars either way.

Don't hate yourself..smile.gif

Some may wonder why no modem in the low end eMac?

That model was intended for sale mostly to school systems where a modem was totally useless.

One benefit to an external modem is the ability to choose one that will carry a long warrantee and is easy to replace if there is a problem. In addition there were several problems associated with eMac modems last fall.

So consider this a draw in the short term, perhaps a good thing in the long run.  wink.gif

Don't feel to bad about yourself Rosa wink.gif
It might be a thing  you overlooked and yup... you had to pay a little (extra) price for it, but at least you have what you want now smile.gif

It's true what they say, check the box on delivery but i know i wouldn't do that myself either.
I would like to have it sit in the original box till unwrappage (if that's a word? lol) biggrin.gif

At the end, it all worked out.... not? blush-anim-cl.gif
