Best to go read the original story not the trumped up piece of trash from Yahoo -- which reads like something from KOIN "news". WAIT! The story at Popular Mechanics reads like a trumped up piece of trash written by a KOIN "news anchor"*. Written BY ANONYMOUS?!?!?!?!?! Give me a break!

Unlocked iPhones

We get tons of people asking us for unlocked iPhones, which, of course, we don't sell. We usually have to tell them that if they unlock their iPhone, it won't work. That it's going to be like a $700 paperweight, and that the antenna will fry itself on T-Mobile. Of course, that's not true, but that's what we tell them. And if they have an unlocked iPhone, we won't touch it at the Genius Bar.

Let's see, Apple is in the business of selling products and a customer asks how to manipulate a product. So an employee tells them how. Customer tries it and breaks said product. Customer than comes back to the store and complains and then customer writes a hit piece for a blog or online "news" site, and soon Apple is smeared all over the place. Unlocking an iPhone may not bust it, but it does invalidate the warranty. Plus asking Apple how to do this is a bit like asking MGM how to unlock their DVD's so you can make dups for friends.

The whole thing has me rolleyes.gif

*KOIN is a local "news" station here. Their idea of "news" is to lift stories from the web, tell you about the hottest YouTube video, repeat at least 3 times any stories that they actually dig into, tell you celebrity 'news' as though it's the latest-greatest earth shattering stuff and ... and ... they constantly trash Apple. Of course, they all have iPads (and several have iPhones), but don't let that get in the way of telling the "news".  envy.gif envy.gif envy.gif

I'm sorry, this kind of "reporting" really does a disservice to the consumer is nothing but Inquirer type "reporting". Really makes me mad.

Ridiculous headline courtesy of Yahoo...

The story itself is hardly sensational - most of it is pretty much as I would expect.  rolleyes.gif
