Sparticus, I believe that the STR-DE485 is no longer in production but you can see your options here on the
sony receivers page.
I run a system similar to what you intend to, a STR-D650Z Sony with 5 dish CD, 2 slot cassette, Dual VHS, and a DvD player. All Sony components, except the speakers (7) which are a mix and match from years of systems that have come and gone.
I don’t have a DVD recorder yet, haven’t had a reason to acquire one, but I suspect it will be in my next upgrade.
Sony makes good equipment but their proprietary when it comes to peripherals, you either have a total Sony system, or the frequencies get boggled, in some cases.
Their remote system don’t work on any other TV components, for example, but it gets worse if you mix and match peripherals in my experience. Mind you I have a 6 year old receiver and the the rest has been upgraded as needed, like a new SLV-D300p combo VHS-DVD. My point is, if you plan on building a complicated system it may require you to buy only Sony components to get the most out of your equipment.
Since I’m already committed to Sony I’ve learned to live with their ways, and now considering a new receiver, my only option would be Sony, if you see what I mean.
Your mileage may vary.
