Although a slick and avant garde looking keyboard comes with a new iMac, I'm not sure I like it as much as others I've used. It looks a bit twee and hardly seems man enough for the job. I find I make a lot more typos on it, particularly with the space bar which seems to need an undue amount of pressure. I also find myself frequently hitting a 'b' or 'n' with the space bar. Is it just my lousy typing or are there others similarly plagued.

My favorite board is the Macally, but sadly it needs to be plugged in and I've been trying for ages to rid my desktop of cables.

If this post looks beautifully typed, It's only because I've spent then last ten minutes correcting it.

Are you talking about the small wireless keyboard? That's what I have and have only had minimal errors. FWIW.

Yes, I do mean the (very) small wireless keyboard. Ah well. You must be a better typist than I. Maybe it's my fat fingers and anno domini.

I don't like the small wireless or the larger wireless keyboards and the journalism teacher that got one soon changed it out for an old wired one from a G4!

Wired or wireless, the new keyboards are either small or larger, with the numeric keypad, the power source/connectivity don't affect their size. Although I think the wireless may have a slightly different angle since it has the battery holder/tube. Other than that, they are the same size.

I finally gave up my old, battleship, real-srpings, Apple keyboard when I got the old iMac a few years ago...they just don't make them like they used to...not being a touch-typist, I hardku ecer mwke q nistakw!

However, if you have a good bench grinder, you might try taking some of the excess width off your fingers. It might even help to file them down to a rectangular cross section, roughly the size if the little 'chicklet' keys.

I didn't like mine either, so I went back to the one I had with the mac Tower. Even though it is not wireless, I like it much better and it fits my hand. The wireless one is too darn small for my hands. I am a poor typist anyway, so I need all the help I can get.

When I got my iMac back in January, I really hated the keyboard--although I loved having it wireless. Typos were the norm. It took awhile, but I did adjust to it, and now only have three typos per sentence.

(Ok, so maybe it's not quite that bad anymore.)

I still miss having the number keypad, and if I had my druthers, I'd have the full size keyboard that my old eMac had, but with a wireless capability.

I got an Apple aluminum wired keyboard back in January:

I love it, altho I confess I'm anything but a fast typist.

Could we say a one-finger-touch-typist?

But I get the job done without twooooo many mizstakes.

Yes indeed, that new lovely little wireless keyboard that came with my new iMac drove me whacky at first.
I am used to an old strong keyboard, a big one with the numbers and you have to hit the keys.
And its noisy.

The new keyboard is smaller(quieter) and if you let your nails get a tiny bit long, or if you have wide or large hands, you will say some of the nasty words that I did when I first got it.
So when you use it, I have the 2 side by side, you have to get EXACTLY in front of it, trim your nails and tread lightly. Your brain will adjust to the lesser space between the keys after a while.
But my mistake, is using the 2 different keyboards side by side. If I used the new one, I would surely get used to it, but going back and forth between the 2 is my fault, and creates the problem.

Just to add my tuppenceworth.

I love my Macs, and I can't ever see me moving back to Windows apart from my Thinkpad which I need for work. However I must admit that Apple input devices are a bit of a Bugbear for me.

I have never liked Apple Mice (Mouses ;-) ). My first Mac was an Anglepoise, what I believe you Colonials ;-) call an Igloo iMac. It came with the horrendous One Button mouse. That ended up in the garbage can after 2 days. Too small, non ergonomic and only one button. The Magic Mouse was the same. The attempt at introducing a "Right Click" just did not work for me, neither did the trackball.

My biggest complaint though is with Apple keyboards. Over here we are sold a "UK" keyboard!!! Well it does not resemble any other UK keyboard I have seen. It is really a US keyboard re-branded. The one that came with my iMac was great to type on but the layout.... When you have been brought up on "Real" UK keyboards it was a real pain to adapt. Two examples, the @ key in the wrong place ad no # key. I could go on.

The BIG saving grace was when I got a Macbook. Same horrible layout but Oh the Trackpad!!! Every other Trackpad since then seems Pre-Historic. I even find it difficult using 2 button laptops now. I always swore blind that I "needed" the 2 buttons!!

Maybe it's just me, an ex Windows and still a *nix user but the best ever keyboards were made by IBM, especially on their Thinkpads. Great (for me) layout. Great "feel" and VERY robust.

At present I'm using the Trackpad on the Macbook, supplemented by a Logitech Bluetooth mouse, and a Logitech mouse on the ancient iMac. For the Thinkpad it's the Trackpoint "pointing stick" (altough both my UK and French colleagues name it differently) plus an identical Logitech bluetooth mouse to the one I use on the Macbook.

Apple, please, please please make a "real" UK keyboard and a mouse that fits peoples hands.

I actually LIKE the aluminum keyboards - but I'd never go with the wireless one since (a) I like the number pad and (b) I want a keyboard that responds as soon as the machine boots and can be used for trouble-shooting - not one that has to wait for the OS (and Bluetooth connectivity) to fully load. I've never liked any Apple mice - I have Logitech wireless optical mice and like those a lot. They're not too heavy, not too big, comfortable, have a nice scroll wheel and battery life that is outstanding, though I don't think mine have lasted 24 months as claimed (!). Plus I like the fact that their little transmitters fit right in the base of the mouse and turn it off, saving battery life when the mouse is in a laptop bag.
