You can probably confirm for suspicions that you have something in your user account that is the cause of your problems with Chrome. Just retort while holding down the shift key. You'll by-pass most anything NON-Apple on that startup. If Chrome works after that start up, you'll need to look through the things you have running 'normally.'
First, take a screen-shot of the items in the Startup Items Pref Panel (I know, you could write them down on that usually white stuff, 'paper," I think it's called, but then you'd also have to fond something to write with!). Second, assuming you don't have more than a few dozen(!) Startup Items, you can easily select a few at a time that you can live without for a few minutes, click the minus button and then do a normal Restart and give Chrome a shot.
I suspect that you'll find one, particular item that does not play well with Chrome (or vice versa). Then it may be a simple matter of updating that item, visiting that site with Safari or FF, of course!
OTOH, it might make your wife feel more needed if you ask her to do any surfing with Chrome!! You could call her your Chrome Expert!
" will quite do it.
