FWIW: PandaLabs is reporting-

"Some cybercriminals created a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Steve Jobs", and innocent people have been joining by the thousands. In just a few hours it had more than 90,000 fans. Criminals published a link using the popular shortener service bit.ly, where they said that Apple will be giving away 50 iPads.
  Of course all the stuff is a scam, and once you click to that URL (which ended with "restinpeace-steve-jobs") you were redirected to a place where you are offered a number of gifts, such as iPads, Sony Bravia TVs. For that they ask for your information, such as Full Name, Address, Phone Number, e-mail address, etc.
  Facebook has closed the page and bit.ly has done the same with their link. There are some really interesting statistics that I'd like to show you. Out of those > 90,000 fans, 25,669 clicked in the link provided by the criminals!"

Perhaps others know additional detail re this report. I am not a FaceBook subscriber and generally question the veracity every blog, ergo the FWIW caveat. However, I do believe there are some clever & devious cretins running loose. Thus a bit of caution when surfing is most prudent. (IMNHO).

The sad truth is that many 'users' have no idea what they are doing. People who do this sort of thing usually don't visit sites (such as TS) that preach different behavior. As a part of my working to distribute my aunt's "estate," I have been amazed at what the USPS allows to sent.

The root of much of this behavior is built-in to humans; greed, something-for-nothing, lack of understanding rates of probabilities, willingness to suspend logic skills, etc. The inter webs simply makes it easier and practically free to reach ever more 'suckers.'

Just another reason I don't do Facebook (although a lot of it may be legit).
Nor any other Social Sites.

I even had a lot of problems for a while there when I posted some stuff for sale on Craigslist.
Ended up giving it away. From now on, I will take it to Salvation Army or the like.

But, I did get some interesting 'offers' from a couple of good looking chicks#^*&^#@#(+)&*&$^&@!

Won't go there again.

Oh, Jack, I'm sure those "ladies" were sincere. They had probably been lurking here and were just trying to connect with someone of your outgoing, helpful and Mac-centric attitude. And they were probably also impressed with your avatar! tongue.gif Of course, now you'll never know...

Did anyone see the graphic in the article? Most clicks from USA. Bunch of dummies. Not that I'm opinionated or anything.  tease.gif

I do not like bitly and refuse to click on their links. Bitly tracks you (as do most of the shorten url services). Personally, I prefer tinyurl. They don't track and they allow me to preview the link to see where I'm headed.
