OS 9.1 vs. OS 9.2.2
« Reply #17 on: June 27, 2003, 10:54:39 PM »
Bill,

When I got Painter 8 it said on the box that it was for 9.2.2 and up, including OS 10.2.

I tried to install it on 9.1 and it wouldn't install.....the installer said it could not find OS 9.2.2.

So I did a clean install of 9.2.2 onto and empty partition I had on the Beige G3.

Problem was none of my USB stuff would work on OS9.2.2 on the G3. So I booted into 9.2.2 and installed Painter 8 onto another Partition that I keep my applications on.

Then I booted into 9.1 and Painter worked fine and so did all of my USB stuff.

It's confusing.  unsure.gif  wacko.gif  biggrin.gif

There coming to take me away .. ya ya .. there coming to take me away ... after reading that!<gr>

Lets take this one step at a time Gary, even though you've painter cooking.

I tried to install it on 9.1 and it wouldn't install.....the installer said it could not find OS 9.2.2.

For 9.2.2. and up plus 10.2: That's the gold key phrase right there.

Don't really think you needed to do that.

"So I booted into 9.2.2." The same 9.2.2. from the empty partition? Or do you have a 9.2.2. system in the applications partition?

Painter 8 apparently needs 9.2.2. and up to install all its Corn-Flakes in that system.
You were going to install painter 8 in the applications partition anyways.
Fine and dandy.
I just did a 'get info' on my 9.2.2. active partition = Used: 1,000.7 MB on disk.
My spare 9.2.2. stashed = 935 MBs

See where I'm heading towards Gary.

If you indeed do have a 9.2.2. in the applications partition, great.!.

What OS are your other apps/programs in that application partition in bed with anyways?

If not. Why not slap one in there.?.
Then create an alias of painter 8 and bring it over to your 9.1 partition.

Painter will be happy as a clam and your "USB stuff" as well.

NOW! That last sentence of yours!

SAY WHAT!?! HOW!?! Naturally your "USB stuff" wasn't effected BUT where is painter 8 pulling its -Honey-Buns. Can I go out and play- stuff from? Can't be from the 9.1. system.
Taking a guess you have a 9.2.2. system in the applications partition.

If this is true. You could of created an alias of painter 8 >over to 9.1 ~~ done ~~.

If not.

No I don't have a System 9.2.2 on the Applications partition.

I guess it isn't. I didn't think about what it installed into the System folder.
Now I'm getting confused.

Later today, if I get a chance I'm going to install Painter 8 on the Quicksilver HD that has 9.2.2 on it. I have 2 HDDs on the QS, one for 10.2.6 and one for 9.2.2. I'll see how that get along.

It just occured to me though that since I have a hub and a Keyspan USB-PCI card in the Beige......I don't know. unsure.gif

Bill,

The only things Painter 8 installs in the System folder are these that I got from the intallation Log:

Installed Other System:System Folder:Extensions:KODAK PRECISION CP1
Installed Other System:System Folder:Extensions:KODAK PRECISION ProfileAPI
Installed Other System:System Folder:Extensions:KodakCMSC

The installation is complete.

Painter has always been good that way.....it doesn't install much in the System Folder. B)
