Adobe Photoshop Elements 10
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:13:02 PM »
I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not there is a difference between Photoshop Elements 10 that may be purchased directly from Adobe vs the app which Apple has in the app store?

I got an email from Adobe yesterday with an offer to purchase PSE 10 for $50. So, I decided to do it. After all, it was a $30 less than I could get from the app store.

The download took over an hour using my wireless network. I was also surprised how long it took to install the components!
This morning when I started using my computer, it acted possessed. I finally figured out that Adobe Updater was attempting to update the camera raw files. Once that was finished things went back to normal.

Anyway, I'm not all that impressed with PSE yet. It is so different from the last Photoshop application I had on my desktop computer that it will require relearning just about everything. I hope to find some good tutorials online to help negotiate the UI which so foreign to me.

Probably the same, assuming you got it from a reputable site/dealer at that much reduced price. Paranoid.gif

How long since you last used Elements? It was first developed to test out the new GUI for Photoshop many, many years ago, so any recent version of PS should look fairly similar but with more detailed dialogs. dntknw.gif

There are several good sites for PSE tuts. I'll post a few later but you can always just search for PSE and tutorials. wink.gif BTW, I think 10 is the best version yet, even 9 had bugs and they seem to have killed those and got them act together quite well, now.

Reading too fast again, Jim? rofl.gif

Of course, there are some who might question whether Adobe is reputable. wink.gif

To answer your first question, Bruce, there are a few differences in the App store version - not in what the app does, but in how it is upgraded etc.

See: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/379141...=0&tstart=0

Having read that, I'd recommend that anyone thinking of buying it, do so through Adobe for the download or get a boxed version on sale. (Nice special offer you got, too. NewEgg had it for $50 in February and Amazon does run periodic specials too (though cheapest I've seen is $59).

I don't know if Adobe was offering that price to anyone who happened to visit the site but I did get the offer by email.

I was going to post the offer I got here but I ran out of time when it took so long to download and install.  whistling.gif  Really!

Sorry about the double attachment! I didn't think it worked the first time so I uploaded it twice accidentally.

If you Google "April 16 Photoshop Elements 10 50% off", you do get a lot of forum postings about it, so it appears it was a deal available to one and all - IF you happened to know about it and go to the Adobe site! I suspect the lengthy download was primarily because their servers were slammed by everyone trying to get the deal. wink.gif I've not found their downloads to be abnormally slow at other times.

PSE has some pretty large files, many that are also used by CS editions, so you are getting more than just the app. And I doubt Adobe has the same server space and interweb connections that Apple does for the MAS but either place could result in a long download time. My version came on a disk and was even less than $50, mainly because of the complaining I and so many others had done about version 9. 10 is definitely better than 9!!! yes.gif And well worth every nickel I didn't spend on it! laughhard.gif    But I considered my frustrations with 9 as payment enough! wink.gif Apparently, so did Adobe! dntknw.gif
