Migration Issues. Part 3!
« Reply #15 on: September 22, 2012, 11:02:06 AM »
Thanks for HELP call! :-)
I've been at this for 2 weeks and it's not making for good vibes at home!
KIS for me, please.

SUMMARY:
Mini: 10.7.4 came with the brand new drive.
G4: 10.4.11

My wife's old data is on the G4 which has 3 partitions -WORK, OSX, EMPTY. The WORK files did get transferred using target disk mode.

Two user accounts were accidentally set up on the Mini - a new account and a G4 account with some of the original files.

I only have one monitor which is a pain when going from the Mini to the G4.

The main issue is the missing files as in my previous post re: iPhoto, iTunes, Mail, Safari.

Aside, this post is getting lengthy (Sorry!), so I'll start another one for installing MS Office from DVDs on the Mac Mini that does not have a DVD drive/reader.

Well, I may sound like a party-pooper, but she'll never be able to use that thing without a monitor. And things will be much simpler when you have on on it, also. I'm simply suggesting that the first thing to do is to get a monitor. They are relatively inexpensive, doesn't need to be one from Apple, at all. You will probably need a <$30 adaptor to connect the monitor. First you need to find out what the video out on that model is. If it came with 10.7, it must be a couple of years old... wink.gif

While I use Mail, Safari, Address book and iTunes, I've never had these problems and don't have a clue how to "fix" any of them.

iTunes: I believe you need to import the music in order to retain the playlists; but that's the best guess I have as it's been years since I've done this.

Mail: the folders with the red circle and the "-" on them. Was this resolved? That icon is an indication that the folder is locked and restricted. I don't know how to unlock/unrestrict it.

Yeesh, you have my sympathies and I wish I had some easy answers for you.

XABD,
My wife's monitor was hooked up to the G4 and is now hooked up to the Mini. That's not an issue, except when I have to go back to the G4 to see anything. IF EVER I get all the files working properly on the Mini, the G4 becomes a boat anchor! ;-)

Is there some way I should start all over?

Not sure if this info helps...
When I first used Target Disk Mode from the G4 to the Mac Mini, I DIDN'T realize that it would only read one of 3 partitions on the G4 - the OSX (20 gb) partition. I had iTunes and iPhoto on the WORK partition (40 gb) because the the OSX partition was running out of room long ago.

The iTunes and iPhoto folders were dragged over from the WORK folder and then imported into the new iTunes and Music folders. When I imported music and photos, it didn't import the Playlists and Photo Albums. Is there something to do to get those files back?

Same applies for my wife's Apple Mail folders that are missing in the sidebar. After the 2nd attempt importing Mail, I see a IMPORT folder in the side bar under ON MY MAC with 3 sub folders - iTUNES, PICTURES, VIDEOS. Those all have another sub folder called MESSAGES. All verrrry confusing and crazy to me!

iTunes: I don't think you can drag them over and import without losing the playlists. Here's 2 apple articles that might help, but you'd have to find a 2nd monitor to use temporarily:

I don't use iPhoto, so can't help you there. Well, not sure any of this is helpful.
