iTunes won't eject a just burned CD...
« on: September 24, 2012, 05:46:59 PM »
And this is not burning pre-recorded songs! These are brand new, freshly created AIF files taken from a self-recorded church service. There ain't no 'album art,' etc. to find on the interwebs. And I have unchecked that option, anyway!

When the burning is complete AND i hear the burner making ready to let iTunes show the new CD as a item, I can usually hover the cursor over the correct place and immediately click the eject icon and the CD ejects. However, if I delay even a few seconds, the drive starts spinning up slightly and the eject icon is inoperable along with the menu command and the keyboard eject key. I can simply twiddle my thumbs for a few minutes and things get back to normal. However, that's not generally what I do. wallbash.gif

What I normally do is simply Quit iTunes, which does so without any delays, dialogs or problems. The new CD has already appeared on the Desktop and in a Finder Side Bar. I then click the eject icon there and get a dialog asking if I realize that some app is using the CD and do I want to foolishly eject it, anyway! "Yes, that's why I have already clicked the icon. DOH!" I will then get a sheet drop down on the dialog asking if I want to "force eject" the CD. Once again, I dutifully click the "Yes, stupid" button. The CD then ejects and the dialog is replaced with one that makes sure I know that I have performed an unnatural act on the CD and that I must atone for that by clicking a third button to confirm my sin! I assume that this information is transmitted to Apple and possible all music labels, even though it was not even copyrighted material.

Why is this happening?! Not the notification thing, I realize my every action is critically important to some advertiser, but the refusal to eject the CD.

Is Spotlight indexing it, by any chance?

Good question. Never use it and usually forget about it doing that. I'll do my best to disable that. Yep! "Music" was checked! Won't know if that worked until next Sunday, therefore, I won't be holding my breath! whew.gif laughhard.gif Thanks!

No luck, yet. Turned off indexing of CD early last week. First burn yesterday had same result; if I wait a couple of seconds the burner speeds up a little and something is obviously reading the data. Only way out is to Quit iTunes and manually eject the CD and do the three click dance!

AT that point, I also changed the iTunes prefs: When you insert a CD: "Ask to import" The "Import Settings..." button never changes it's choices, of course. But "asking to import..." should allow me to NOT import. iTunes doesn't see a newly burned CD as being "inserted" anyway, so that pref doesn't really apply. dntknw.gif And the next burn (Quitting iTunes for several hours) resulted in the exact behavior; no eject from within the app, Quit, manual eject and go through the interrogation routine.

BTW, the two "Automatically retrieve..." and "Automatically download..." items are UN-checked. Maybe I should look for some CDs with attitude problems so iTunes wouldn't want to keep them around? rolleyes.gif wallbash.gif

It might be as simple as the Finder taking a few seconds to mount the just-burned disc.
A whole lot about me: www.xeromag.com/franklin.html

Thanks, but the disk shows up on the DT almost exactly the same time it shows in iTunes. wallbash.gif  I hardly ever use full screen windows and usually have the right-hand edge of the Desktop visible for just this sort of thing.

I'm sure there is a log somewhere describing what is taking place. I'm just too lazy to search in Console and not even sure what terms to use or places it might be. After all, it's not really a crash, if I just leave it alone, I can eventually use the iTunes eject button. I just don't like my computer telling me, "you must wait a short time," as my Epson CD printer dialog, translated from Japanese, is wont to tell me! laughhard.gif I only burn two disks a week, so it's not a major problem, just an annoyance. Oh well...
