Flipped Out Cursor
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:38:24 AM »
Every time I move the cursor over a link while online it starts flickering back and forth between the arrow and the pointing finger. This just started in the past week or so. I ran Disk Utility but the flickering is still happening.
This is happening on my MacBook Pro (mid 2009)
Running OS X 10.8.2

While it doesn't seem to affect the computer in any way, it is distracting.

I just went to the Apple site to check out the discussions when suddenly the cursor is back to normal.  whistling.gif

Never mind…

Not so fast, buddy.

It's not resolved but I don't know when it's going to act up or not. It came back.

I launched Elements 10 and the cursor jumps there too.

I'm assuming you are using the laptops touchpad. Do you have a wired mouse you can use? Are you connected wirelessly? If so, can you connect via Ethernet?
Make sure you aren't accidentally touching the touch pad.

Yep, I'm using the touchpad. I don't have a mouse any more.

The cursor flicker is really random. It's hard to know when or how long the jumping will happen.

I've had a few instances of similar nature.  I chalked it up to the batterey/flex cable problem that has annoyed me for a year or so.  It affects the trackpad and keyboard but is really sporadic.

If you are experiencing the problem consistently at some point, try putting the MBP on AC, put it to sleep, then take the battery out and see if it goes away.

It just so happens that the battery in this computer needs to be replaced. It will hold a charge for a couple hours. I don't have the tools to open my MBP right now but I'll give your suggestion a try some time.

Thanks!
