It is even raining here and we haven't had rain for weeks.

When I saw your thread title, I miss-pressed the above thread instead which started with Pauline talking about diseases..... Lol!

I know what Wimbledon is (although I don't follow it), but what's Glastonbury?

Glastonbury is a huge music festival, famous for its mud!, that has been running at Worthy Farm for more than 40 years and has had some of the world's biggest rock and pop acts. The very first one, in 1970 had T.Rex and 1,500 people bought a £1 ticket (around $1.50). This year's headliners include the Rolling Stones and tickets cost £205 with 135,000 sold. Previous years have seen Bruce Springsteen, Suzanne Vega, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Bjork, Bob Dylan, Robbie Williams and Neil Young on stage. Not, it has to be said, at the same time biggrin.gif

Just search YouTube for "glastonbury mud" and find pages of mudlarks from over the years biggrin.gif

Usual warning about language in the comments  rolleyes.gif

Never been there myself - too fond of my home comforts.

rgray: Not only that, MotoGP in Holland tomorrow; Lorenzo is out with a broken collarbone after coming off spectacularly in rain during yesterday's practice.

I've never been to Glastonbury, but.....

I did venture on to your home turf many years ago. Reading 1977. Guess what? It rained. A veritable monsoon. I lost a desert boot (remember them?) in the mud. I put my foot down, pulled it up sans boot and almost fell flat on my face. Turned 'round and couldn't work out where to start looking in the sea of mud. Ah, those were the days :-)

Mud seems to play an unusually important part in many 'celebrations.' Memphis, a nearby 'city,' the Capitol of Bar-B-Que, has an annual Bar-B-Que contest each May. I'd have to check, but I think that may be the rainiest month of the year for this region... rolleyes.gif It may be that local planners, at least in the northern hemisphere, know that the mud will make re-seeding the land easier. dntknw.gif Plus, a good coating of mud stops most pesky personal insects; even with their minuscule brains, they know to stay away from mud! yes.gif
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!
