Wireless keyboard & mouse?
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:31:02 PM »
Hey guys, I've tried typing on friends laptops, and damned if I can get used to the flat keyboards.  Granted, I've not done it for extended times, but I'm thinking about trying to find a mouse and keyboard to use with the new computer, but most of the stuff I'm finding does not seem to be Mac compatible.  I "searched" the forum for "wireless keyboard" and although I came up with 3 pages of results, nothing seemed to apply.  Any reccomendations?  (4 days & counting 'til it gets here!)  biggrin.gif

I have been using the Apple model A1016 for quite a few years, and combined with the "Magic Trackpad"  I love it. Dont know if you can get a new or refurb from Apple but there seems to be quite a few available on ebay:   A1016

I am with you re the flat ones.  Fingers just do not want to marry up with em. toothgrin.gif

I assume that you searched this Apple page! but have you looked at Amazon or eBay? Are you set on a wireless keyboard or would you consider trying to find an older, wired one that isn't flat?

Thanks, guys; looks like the A1016 is what I'm looking for; if I want to stay wired, I suspect that I can continue to use the keyboard that I'm using with the G5.  I tried to use both eBay and Amazon, but they gave me mostly wireless that would work on PC's, and not Mac; kinda frustrating!

When I replaced my G4 with a Mac Pro, I kept the old Apple keyboard and it worked just fine. Also, a friend bought an iMac (several years ago) that had the flat, wireless keyboard. She didn't like it so I plugged in the wired Apple keyboard (not flat!) from her previous iMac and all was (and is) well. Give it a try; it should work.

All you need is a USB keyboard. Preferably without the MS windows emblem, of course. smile.gif I get five at the top of the page via Google, only one is eBay which I tend to avoid, being the un-trusting, paranoid, tin-foil-hat-wearing type that I am! laughhard.gif

Beacher, I'd give the keyboard on the MBP a chance before buying another one. You may get used to it after a few days and actually start to like it. I love mine and I also like my WIRED aluminum keyboard for the MacPro (I want the full-size beast with the numbers - and want it to work if doing a PRAM reset etc. too, which I don't know that BT ones do). I wouldn't go back to my old A1016 - it's a terrible crumb, dust and fuzz collector too. wink.gif

As for mice - I do find I need a mouse as the trackpad results in a sore thumb for me after a while (maybe I have arthritis in my thumb or something…?) Anyway, I like my Magic Mouse, which I use with Better Touch Tool on the Mac Pro and I also like my wireless Logitech USB mouse which I use with the MBP: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Mo.../ref=pd_sim_e_9

Wow, guys, looks like I'm set!  Paddy, I'm using the Logitech 505 mouse right now, and I love it; it would just be nice to not be "tethered", but I do like the full size keyboard with a curve to it, and access to the numbers.  I have spent some time on other people's laptops, and, geez, I just keep screwing up with the flat keyboard, and they feel small!   3 nights to wait! biggrin.gif
