Rumors - Rumors (G5)
« on: July 14, 2003, 04:01:43 PM »
Two in particular that's flooding around.

1) iMac G5s coming out soon or yesterday.  Yeah Right!
Pending on where one reads, they're going to have monitors as big as an old style drive-in theater plus all the inner components will be upgradable ... all the way on the other side of the scale where the only thing one can exchange/upgrade is the on/off button for different colors. smile.gif

Sure would nice if the G5 PMs came out, settled in for a while before all these jive rumors popped up.
Oh well. Never changes no matter what century your in.

2) New LCD displays.
The pic below has been all over the globe already.

Still a bit far-fetched yet in a way the LCDs might not be that far off.

Lets say the LCDs are the same as the present ones.
Only the shells were redesigned to look/have the metal effect = G5.

Cost of the present displays went down recently ..... hmmmm?

Could these be an actual idea/concept?

Waddya think, will the new shells accommodate two USB 2.0 ports instead of the two USB 1.0 ports as presently configured? Or, perhaps include an additional firewire port?

Even exchanging/replacing those can't be that expensive Harv.
Off the shelf they're -what- .. under a $80 alone.
Mass production from one source ....

Sure look cool, don't they. smile.gif

New displays seem realistic. The current displays don't fit to the aluminum G5 case.

"New displays seem realistic."

Sure would be nice if that image was indeed 'real' versus some rumor.
Even if it isn't exactly as the image would be good.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That's what i been reading to yes.
My guess... they will come yes.... now let's hope the price will be down to, would be a nice gesture.

Apple Commercial shows off "new" displays along side the G5

During a commercial break on MTV Apple showed it's Jeff Goldbum narrated TV commerical featuring the G5 Tower. Along side the Tower seemed to be an extremely wide LCD display, As reported by one of our readers.

The commerical features a Mac user being blown through the walls of his home (many walls) only to be thrown outside. Jeff Blum announces the "world's fastest personal computer".

We haven't seen the commerical yet, but if the report of an extra wide-screen display is true, perhaps the commerical is running a day early?

I just caught the back end of that commercial on network TV.

Once I realized it was a G5 commercial I looked at the display to see if it was different from the present ones but the camera didn't linger on the display. I really couldn't see any obvious difference but I will know to look more carefully the next time.

BTW, if I remember correctly Jeff introduced it as the "fastest and most powerful".

With the possible exception of an announcement or two about the Xserve server or other, lesser Apple wares, I'm skeptical that this week's event will include many software or hardware fireworks from Apple or its major vendors.

I like the commercial. They ought to run it as much as possible.
