So tired of the beachball

Im still using my older 24 inch Mac, as its wonderful and I have older software which I need,,,,,,,OS X 10.5.8,  and recently Safari v. 5.0.6 (5533.22.3) stalls and becomes 'unresponsive' and I have to Force Quit.The spinning beachball is SOOOOO annoying when Im on the news stations, not bad on my little picture heavy websites, nor my classmates, nor the weather channel. Its mostly the news stations, YouTube or other sites with lots of content.This never was a problem till recently.And is not a problem with any of my other browsers.Cant update beyond 5.0.6.Any suggestions?Thanks,JaneForgot to say, that I just changed to Firefox for my default browser, but I did not really want to have to do that.

I think its probably my third party stuff, so I will follow the instructions on the sites you gave me.

OH, great news, I disabled plug ins and now its much much better!
Off to walk Lilly.
