Those folders are collections of bookmarks. If you don't want to see them, go to the View menu > Toolbars and uncheck Bookmarks Toolbar.

Jim,

Is this the right way to bring up the about config:

Just enter :about config in the URL field?

doesn't work for me, just tells me it's an invalid url.

I also tried:
:about config: - still no joy.

Jack

p.s. proper is

about:config

but couldn't find anything that might work,

closest was

browser.tabs.tabClipWidth . . . -set at 140, changed to 130 - no joy.

Jon, I think he wants to be able to use the collections but NOT see the icons. Of course, I didn't understand the original post, either! blush-anim-cl.gif

So, is there a way to have the collections available in some other way?

Jack, try about:config

But, as you can see in the Chrome display image, it uses exactly the same 'folder' icon. That only seems logical to me since that's what those links (buttons, really) are; folders of urls. It's simply a representation of how the browser stores you Bookmarked tabs; folders.

I don't need to see the folder icon, there is a down arrow thingy that implies more than one entry.

That was all they used in ff-3.x   ....

All the folder icons do is add to the width of the toolbar.

Here's a suggestion: Uncheck Bookmarks Toolbar as I said in my previous post. Then, click the Bookmarks icon in the Navigation toolbar. That will show a sidebar with the bookmark folders. To hide the sidebar, click the Bookmarks icon again.

Jon,

Part one worked - hid the tabs toolbar altogether.

Part two doesn't set a tabs toolbar, only temporary thru navigation toolbar

please pardon my slowness

I DO want to see the tabs toolbar, I just don't want the folder icons taking up space in that toolbar.

My only suggestion involves never moving the browser window and very small pieces of duct tape.
