Collierville gets national recognition
« on: August 16, 2014, 12:06:37 PM »
The latest issue of Parade Magazine (newspaper insert) says Collierville, Tennessee is a wonderful place.

Sadly, no mention of its most illustrious citizen. Sorry about that, Jim!

You must get that "magazine" earlier than we do?

I had heard that "we" had won but I was going to wait a few days and rub a certain Admin's nose in the dirt about that! wink.gif Apparently, McMinnvile, OR came in second. That Admin doesn't actually live in that town, however, that's the only town anywhere near her location! I could have voted for one in my birth State (Siloam Spring's) or another down the road (Corinth, MS). Lots of nice towns around here! thumbup.gif

I didn't even hear about the contest until after the voting closed! So much for the "newspaper" printed in the "city" of Memphis (only regional paper). And that's the paper that includes Parade in its Sunday edition! I don't usually read the thing... if I had a bird cage, however...

I think it came down to having a larger population. OTOH, I think we have a better <website>. tongue.gif

Our "daily" newspaper, The Lebanon Reporter (some call it the Lebanon Distorter), does not publish on Sunday, so they insert the Parade Magazine on Saturday. They don't publish a Monday paper either and I don't know why. It is delivered via US Mail, so they don't publish on holidays when there is no mail delivery.

BTW, they're advertising for a managing editor. Hope they can find someone who knows the proper use of apostrophes in contractions, plurals, and possessives.

Anyway, congratulations to Collierville and the runners-up. Charming towns, all.

They probably publish "contractions" on Monday'sModaiesMondayes the day after Sunday! Since they publish only once a day, they have no use for "plurals". They seem rather "possessive" with their paper by printing it only five days a week! May be thier just are'nt have enough thing's happening 'round you're area? Thinking.gif scram.gif

Oh, but things do happen 'round our area (Boone County)!

The most widely-read part of our paper is the Boone Beat, which is basically the daily police blotter. I check it regularly to see if I get mentioned.

That has happened only once, when I was mistakenly accused of putting a scratch on some guy's old work truck in a restaurant parking lot after having lunch. He observed me through the restaurant window as I backed slowly out of my tight parking spot, and took down my license number. A city policeman came to my house the middle of the afternoon to "investigate." His conclusion? "It didn't happen!"

Small-town living at its best.

Well, it's no skin off my nose. tease.gif

Didn't know about the contest, but I have no love or hate for McMinnville (I think we've driven through it a few times), so congrats to your town. smile.gif Well done and hope y'all enjoy a tourist explosion and bucks in the merchants coffers.

Oh, and I'd agree on the better web site. The one for McMinnville is BORING.
