I just did as <Xairbusdriver >suggested and backed up my phone, then downloaded the update. Worked fine but took awhile.

Updating my iPad wasn't so straight forward. I had to remove more than half the apps before there was enough room to download the update. Otherwise, it went okay too.

Happy to say: No problems with either my iPhone 5 or iPad Air. toothgrin.gif

Bruce, I made the reference to my name a link to the thread that notes those cautions. I promise I didn't make any other changes! But thanks for your credit card numbers and checking info. thumbup.gif

Applied available updates to apps.
Backed up.
And applied IOS 8 via iTunes.

Only one problem, that I'm aware of.. App called Flyby, for tracking satellites, does not have tracking info available. I can live with this for now.

Full update to about 12-15 minutes total.

Seems as if my problem was Bit Defender antivirus. After I turned it off my download time went from 50 hrs. to 15 min.

What is "antivirus"? I thought you were using a Mac! eek2.gif wink.gif

Seriously, I've not found anything that has ever found a virus, even a PC one, on any Mac. They are somewhat of a "big hammer" at any rate; they often cause more problems than they solve, at least on a Mac running the latest OS. They almost all depend on libraries of known malware/virus codes. But as soon as they are updated (a new virus is detected and announced), the hackers change the coding enough to bypass the 'detector'. Of course, they 'detector' is still useful for watching for files that may come in an email that you forward to another windows user who doesn't use any antivirus s/w. I suppose that group will never cover all windows users. rolleyes.gif

I think most people eventually find they should be turned off when making downloads from trusted sites. I still always end up returning to ClamXav and run it on start up. dntknw.gif

Of course, even Mr. Tessler reported extremely long download and install times on the first day. Too many trying to access the code at the same time. Secondly, the "Installer" only installs itself. The real traffic occurs when the Installer starts downloading the actual OS, a much larger file. wink.gif

Glad to hear things finally went smoothly and at a reasonable speed! clap.gif

Have you discovered any "must-have" features? Have you tried "QuickType"?

Three "must read" <articles about iOS 8>, especially if you're using Mavericks. Read before you install. salute.gif

9/24: A new OS sometimes includes new features that are turned ON by default. Apparently, one of them is "Hand Off" in iOS 8. In an effort to stop battery usage, you can turn that feature off, as well as BlueTooth and even WiFi. At least it's fairly easy and fast to use the 'swipe-up-from-the-bottom-of-the-screen' method to access those switches. wink.gif
(Is there a formal name for: "swipe-up-from-the-bottom-of-the-screen" SUftBotS eek2.gif Fortunately, there is no 'swiping' involved to close that control panel, just tap on any other part of the screen...)

I am waiting for a while. Read that there are a few issues.
My grandson got a 'pre-release' and likes it, had it for a while.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO iOS 8.0.1. It's no longer available, anyway. If you made the upgrade and are having cellular or Touch ID problems, Apple has published how to downgrade until they "fix the fix".

It downloaded itself onto my iPad mini and is waiting for me to install it. I don't suppose Apple will now un-download it for me?

If you never installed it, just don't. I assume you mean you down loaded it to iTunes? I'm not that familiar with these updates but I'd think downloading to an iDevice would automatically install it. Even if it did get installed, I doubt you make many calls on the iPad and I don't think any of them have that fingerprint reader thingy. Stick with WiFi if the machine is actually running 8.0.1 and you may never see a problem. Of course, if you made a backup to iTunes before upgrading, the Apple document explains how to downgrade.

Might be handy and reassuring to tap Settings->General->About and check the Version info... wink.gif

8.02 takes about 5-8 minutes to install on iPad via wi-fi.  Never had access to 8.01 didn't show up in system update.  8.02 showed up this evening.

Disturbingly, it downloaded itself and was patiently waiting for me to install it, but I was able to delete it as in that link I added. Now I'm waiting to see if 8.0.2 explodes on anyone before I add it.
