Telephone call on iPad2 ?????
« on: October 08, 2014, 11:47:36 AM »
iPad2 IOS 8.02  WI-FI iCloud
iPhone 5, IOS  8.02 Verizon and WI-FI iCloud

Yesterday SWMBO was on a telephone call with the iPhone when she got a  ding on the iPad with a "Notification" of a missed call. First time that has ever happened. jawdrop.gif

This morning I tested it and sure enuff not only does a "notification"  come up on the iPad, you can actually have a 2 way conversation   using  the iPad. WOW.gif

This is something she does NOT want. I have been unable to determine what is "ON" to enable this feature. wallbash.gif

Look in Settings->Notifications, check if "Phone" is listed as "INCLUDE". If so, tap it. Slide the "Allow Notifications" to the left (Off).
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Well it is NOT there on the iPad. SWMBO is out and about with the iPhone.  Seems to me like I looked there earlier and did not see it there either. ???

I will recheck when she returns.

HOW can one have a 2 way telephone conversation with an iPad2????? jawdrop.gif  I called the iPhone5 , with the "house" phone, left the iPhone5 unanswered.  Notification received on the iPad, was able to answer the call on the iPad and have a 2 way conversation, the iPad acting as a "Phone"????????? huh.gif huh.gif huh.gif

The house phone is a Verizon product (really a cell phone in disguise).  The iPad had to be on WI-FI since it is WI-FI only?? wacko.gif wacko.gif

Confusing to say the least (at least to this old brain) rolleyes.gif

The more I delve into this the more confusing it gets.

1:  "Phone" is included in the notifications on the iPhone5
a:  No change when turned on or off.   Still get notification on the iPad

2:  Thought maybe it was related to the fact that the house phone was a "Verizon Wireless"  service.  NOPE tried it with a T-Mobile cell phone.
no change.  Still get the iPad notification.

Have not been able to find anything in the various forums that relates to this specific issue.  SWMBO keeps telling me it only appeared after updating both the phone and iPad to os 8.0.2.  Who knows, guess I will just be happy that the iPad2 is now a telephone of sorts  WOW.gif WOW.gif

Kinda Sorta toothgrin.gif

On the iPad, Settings->Messages->Send & Receive, there should be a list of phone numbers and email addresses that are allowed to send Notifications to the iPad. I suspect you will find your wife's phone number and most, if not all, her iCloud email addresses. You can remove the the phone number by tap & hold. That should remove the check mark but it will leave the number for use if your wife changes her mind. It might be nice to have your phone number listed there (with a check mark) but I'm uncertain how to do that at the moment.

The advantage of having the ability to use the iPad to use the phone is to supposedly avoid using your phone's minutes. dntknw.gif

Well some progress ( I think), first, is it a "message" not a notification??? however the iPhone# while there is NOT checked, but tapping it does put the check mark there, but tapping and holding does nothing.  The only other thing(s) listed there are 2 of her e mail addresses one being the icloud.

Is it possible to originate a telephone call from the iPad?????  I wouldn't think so because then it would be an iPhone????? wallbash.gif

I am beginning to support the idea of "renting" a teenager to get me up to speed on all this high tech gadgetry, as my computational skills just do not seem to function at a rate necessary to make phone calls on a regular basis these days. Groaner.gif blink.gif wacko.gif wub.gif

Well if I read it correctly it is not FB but Face Time and the app basically enables "continuity" between iOS. Devices, example create on one device and then add/edit etc on another device. etc etc. apparently on And functional with the iOS 8.0.2 Unless turned off in Face Time settings.

Now with all that good info and about 7 bucks coffee probably available in most airports.
