I'm afraid I haven't done much music downloading since Napster went down the tubes... I miss that one... but I'll watch for something...

The official Kazaa client is not available for Mac.

However, a new software is available which I read is supposed to be very good. Since I don't download music I haven't tried it, but it's certainly worth a try. It's called "Poisoned" and the latest release is 0.3.

Here's the link:
http://www.gottsilla.net/software.php?site=poisoned

[Edit] I just read that it runs Kazaa, eDonkey, Gnutella parallely, which is pretty good, I think. smile.gif

Good link, gmann and spartacus. Used it all last night and this morning and although nothing's matched Napster for Macs, Poisoned is a ball of fire compared to Limewire.

Welcome to the forum, K's daughter.  biggrin.gif

I used to use iSwipe from Hillman Minx for that kinda stuff when I needed it, since LimeWire was such a dog and all.

iSwipe points to OpenNap, Gnutella and other Web servers to locate stuff.

It's shareware, and the song selection was smaller, but it was worth it to me.

And the price for the app was pretty reasonable.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lorean, Welcome to the Board (yup yup, with capital D) wink.gif

I guess, like most people say, LimeWire is the best option for Mac.
I used it to at times, although it might look unstable, i never found anything that appeared to be better.
I don't want to sound like a grumpy person but euhm... well, i would say... try to measure the benefits to the downside when you like to download a music file.
I mean, maybe it's nicer to check family and friends first to see if they don't happen to own a cd from the bands you like, than ask the cd and import it on your mac with iTunes.
That way, you can see your friends more to... even when it's just cause they buzz the door bell to ask you the cd back, hehehe biggrin.gif

I think Acquisition beats Limewire easily. The only feature it lacks is the ability to filter out results effectively.

Still, I would use it over Limewire anyday. It gets better with each new version, as opposed to Limewire, which has it's up & downs despite releasing soemthing every other day.

Welcome fellow TSer, Mac User, and guitar player wink.gif

I have tried Drumbeat, and it seems somewhat slow, but what dosen't on a 28.8 connection? biggrin.gif
I  heard that Limewire works fairly good from friends, never have used it myself.

I'm more into recording off the radio (from a local, very clear station)

Good Luck

Peter

Just to sum up, since some of you (you know who you are! wink.gif) in your rush to get info out there seem to have forgotten that Lorian is using OS 8.6....the only suggestion which might work for her is iSwipe - Chris's suggestion.

She can't get Limewire to work, and Poisoned (great as it is) and Acquisition (great as it is) are OS X only. iSwipe has only been tested under OS 9.1, so no guarantees according to the documentation:

http://www.hillmanminx.net/iswipe/faq.html (for ease of use, I've given you the direct link - he did his site in frames - so to get back to the home page go to www.hillmanminx.com )

Of course, upgrading to 9 might help too (this might be a considerably easier sell to DOD, Lorian, than the other route - a processor upgrade & OS X for the iMac!). biggrin.gif

Welcome, Lorian!  (That's not misspelled is it?  I'm in a very elite club, anyone named Lorraine can join!  There's 2 of us now.)

Well, I have a suggestion... Buy a used PC and download your little heart away!  In truth, I don't know what I'm talking about -- never have downloaded any music.  But my son has a PC purchased used in 1998, and he's got tons of homemade CD's.

Excuse me, I hear sirens outside, I have to go now...!  Anyway, good luck!

Lorraine

Just today i found this poisoned software which is able to connect to multiple networks for downloads (Gnutella, KazAa).

Thought you might want to try it out.
