Tragedy Strikes Close to Home!
« on: July 25, 2015, 08:54:41 AM »
"Nature" seems to be encroaching ever closer to our house! Eating breakfast this morning I see a the neighborhood cat climbing up the tall Crepe Myrtle just outside the window. In a few seconds it had disappeared into the very thick foliage in the upper limbs. Next thing I know, I see it coming down with a small bundle of feathers in its mouth. Survival of the fittest… or, at least, the best climbers! Thinking.gif

My mistake was mentioning the event to my ex-Daughter-in-Law (looonng story!). She was overcome with pity, sadness, and alarm. While trying to calm her down she saw the cat making a return trip to the ‘fresh produce department'. Our ex-D-i-L rushed out the door making all kinds of noise and saved any remaining siblings… at least until the cat out-waits her! jawdrop.gif

Oh, always rough to watch nature as it unfolds. There was a lovely black cat roaming my neighborhood, that I called the cat 'Boots' because he was all black with white paws. 'Boots' belonged to one of my neighbors and he survived for almost 2 years. Then one night I heard his death when something bigger and faster caught him and took him away. It was hard to be awakened to those sounds, and it really tore at my heart, but I'd always known 'Boots' wasn't long for this outdoor world. Still it was difficult to go back to sleep.

I will admit when Mac trapped and killed the rats in the garage I shed not one tear. In fact, I applauded and cheered my brave hunter.  toothgrin.gif

Our cat has never been outside the house except to visit the vet. They may have nine lives, but they don't fair well against the chemicals found in most populated areas, and then there are the things we make with chemicals like iron and rubber! eek2.gif Those contraptions are dangerous even to humans! yes.gif "Sweety" is nearly 17... and is still not trained to fetch my slippers! laughhard.gif

All our cats were indoor cats all their very long lives, and not a one of them ever learned to fetch, sit, or anything else. On the other hand, Mac and I learned to serve their meals on command, pet them when they wanted, and move out of their way when they wanted a spot on the bed. hahaha

We have coyotes here, and Lancelot, who was a lovely big friendly cat, got caught by one. I sure missed that cat, he would walk to our house a lot to visit.
So everybody has to keep their cats indoors here.
Though I have one neighbour who has a 25 pound cat with long fur, he looks HUGE. Coyotes nor foxes mess with him. Name is Murphy.
