Opera window placement
« on: July 26, 2003, 09:11:16 PM »
Okay, I've gone cold turkey and given up on IE, and moved to Opera 6.02. I really like it and for the most part it works well.

However ... I have 2 probs with window placement and I don't know how to fix them. :frustration:

1. When I launch Opera, the new window loads down and to the left of my screen. I want it up and to the right. I set it there and choose "Save Window Settings", but that doesn't work.

2. Today something new to frustrate me ... when I click on a link in my email, the window will open down and to the left and HALF OFF THE SCREEN (at least the new blank window is all on the screen!).

I don't know what preference to fix/change. Suggestions?

Opera 6.02
Eudora 5.1.1
OS 10.1.5 (soon to be Jag .... )

Thanks-
kimmer (who thinks it's lovely to see her once healthy geraniums gracing the top of her ts window)

Kimmer, have you gone through Opera's preferences - particularly the Windows one and the Start/Exit preferences to see if there is anything there that might be doing this? Mine is behaving itself - window is opening in the top right of my screen every time. I do NOT have "show saved window setup" checked in the preferences though - I have "show home page". Maybe you should try that and see what happens?

Opera still doesn't work on some pages for me - if anything is not going to work, it will probably be in Opera...sigh. The only browser that doesn't work with the Javascript that both Jennie and I have been using for slideshows is...Opera.

Have you tried Camino or Omniweb? Or iCab? Or Mozilla? Go to VersionTracker.com, click on the OS X tab and then do a search for "web browsers" - you'll get all of them and then can download 'em and try 'em. I have them all. I check all my web page designs in all of them...helps find problems (though sometimes it's the browser, NOT the person doing the coding!) All of them will run on earlier versions of OS X. Of course, Safari reigns as far as I'm concerned, but you need Jag to run it.

Thanks Paddy. I did have "Show saved window setup" checked. I changed it and I'll see how that goes.

I've tried several other browsers, and figured that I'd rather use IE as any of them. Opera is the only one that I like other than IE.

I'm bumping up to Jag shortly and then I'll use Safari - which I understand is way cool. B)

I'll let you know the switch works.

Kimmer... lovely geraniums! biggrin.gif

For Opera... I'm using v5, but do you also have in edit>preferences>windows>window positioning and an arrow beside that? Click the arrow and you get 4 options to set the position for your "startup" window... on my Pismo with a 14" screen I have it set for X=30 Y=20 From Screen Right=20 and From Screen Bottom=40 and that puts my window where I like it. There's other choices... I just fiddled with it til I arrived at what suited me.

Thanks Dreambird, the (*^^&*% bugs ate all my flowers last year. This year it's been too hot to plant anything.

Now ... my windows prob ... tried Paddy's suggestion and that didn't help; but Dreambird - I think you are close. The new version of Opera doesn't have the "From Screen Right and From Screen Bottom" options. The only options are width and height. Mine are set at 860 and 800. I think another note to Opera tech support is in order.  dry.gif

Hmmm, I'd be curious to hear what they say Kimmer... there are about 4 options for each setting in Opera 5, but these worked best for me.

The flowers... yeah, my daylilies aren't getting a single bud for the second year in a row now... the springs have been so cold and delayed that I think it affects them when they start coming up... only other thing is that the crowns might have become a little too deep under the soil and dead leaves, I need to get out there and try clearing an inch or so away. See if we have any success next year, doesn't help when it's so cold that I need to leave the mulch on longer either...  doh.gif  upset.gif

Ah well, it's fantastic right now! We're getting the "heat" I've  been craving for so long... biggrin.gif

BTW... love the new avatar!
