Say DSCF0001.jpg through DSCF0045.JPG to 1.JPG through 45.JPG without highlighting each one and removing the extras?  Or even more  wallbash.gif DSCF0034.JPG through DSCF0058.JPG to 1.JPG to 24.JPG?

Jennie, I know I've seen an affirmative answer to this before. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the application.

How often do you have to do this? If just this once, it will probably take more time to track down, download, install, run the app, and learn how to use it than it will to change them all manually. If you do it frequently, you'll eventually get a return on the time investment.

Oh....it's a constant.  I'll be doing this "renaming" for the rest of my born days, unless cameras develop a method of allowing renaming on card.

Don't know if you have it, Jennie, but Photoshop 7 can batch rename through the Browser feature...

R-Name seems pretty cool, but the link is dead.

There are many ways to do this. I use iView Media Pro usually for my renaming.

You may want to look at ExifRenamer: http://www.qdev.de/?location=mac/exifrenamer

There are also scripts put out by Apple which can replace text in a filename, add prefixes or suffixes:  http://www.apple.com/applescript/toolbar/

If you are using OS X and have the ScriptMenu in place, these are very quick & handy.

It's small, fast and powerful.

And it's shareware.

That is THE most annoying [confusing] *** for me.
Why? Because when I rename them, then upload them too wherever, I never remember what in blazes I called each one or where I stuck them. <gr>

I'm still in 9. at least until I find a couple of days to install the new drive that came in!! yesterday.

I'm still using PS 5.0, so until I learn more, I can't see springing for an upgrade;  most of my work is done in ColorIt.

Jennie:  Great prose  BTW  Graphic Converter (shareware) can also do it, and when you get OS X, so can iPhoto.   smile.gif
