This is CRAZY-----mackeeper?
« on: April 30, 2018, 07:40:45 AM »
Got an alert on my iPhone, and logged into iCloud on this Mac.
Said someone tried to log in to my account.
But did not gain access.
I did not click on anything.
But a loud beep came on,  and this is the screen shot. I quit immediately, and everything is working just fine.
Anybody seen anything like this before?

I do know that MacKeeper is a very bad thing, and that's what this came from.

Forgot to say, its a Canadian phone #.

You did well to quit immediately. As you said, Mackeeper is a BAD THING. It would have been a mistake to click on anything, because the labeling of the buttons is not necessarily what actually happens. Probably, nothing bad happened, but it wouldn't hurt to run Malwarebytes. You can download it and try it for free.

This is definitely a scam. It's good that you didn't fall for it.

MacKeeper is BAD!
I found this,
https://www.securemacos.com/single-post/201...r-from-your-Mac

Odd that I knew that it was bad, so never installed it. Never got caught, but wonder how this got into my iCloud?  Maybe its no harm, just trying to get people to click on it, which I didn't.
Ive never gotten mixed up in any of this, so I thought I should send the info to you asap so you could advise me.  Whether to totally ignore it, or look a bit deeper. It did not show up on any other computer, but I never log into iCloud anyway. I dont use it much.

"wonder how this got into my iCloud?" So, how did you get into iCloud? Or any other "cloud" for that matter.

I logged in with no problem, but got that whacky mess. Loud beep as well,,,,,,,Clicked off immediately, and the scan came up clean.
Got the message on the iPhone that somebody-MacKeeper had tried to access my account, but evidently didnt do harm, but Im still wondering why it showed up inside my account.
Tho was not able to harm anything, of course I did not click upon anything.

Should I contact Apple, then send them all the screenshots I took? I bet they would be interested.
Before and after?

Jane, that screenshot you posted was from Safari - so somehow, you got yourself into Safari. You must have clicked on something somewhere - that page that produced the popup was linked from somewhere. And these popups are often accompanied by a loud (alarming - designed to be that way) tone. My guess is that there was a link in an email sent to your iCloud account by a scammer. The URL in the popup isn't even to the real MacKeeper - it's to some other deceptive website registered to someone in Panama. Great - not only do you have to watch out for MacKeeper, but there are people out there pretending to be it too. rolleyes.gif
