Gary:  Double check your cache for Netscape.  Particularly if you are using NS 7.  I went a looking today, and though I had the Cache set at 1KB, there were 10,793 items in the Cache folder eek2.gif Tried deleting cache in preferences, still there.  Manually removed them, but do you know how long it takes to move 10,000 items to the trash and then delete 'em? ohmy.gif

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Jennie,

I had mine set to 5000k. I did it manually too. It took a while for the trash to empty them. smile.gif

I'm seriously thinking about reinstalling Netscape 7.01 or 7.02, I think there may be problem with it. Netscape 4.8 scrolls fine and runs faster, but I've gotten kind of used to those tabbed windows. Now I have to find where I can get a download. All I see on the Netscape sit is 7.1 for OSX.  dry.gif

I might have it on a zip or a CD I burned. This slow keyboard is driving me knutes!

Bill,

I haven't reinstalled Netscape yet because I'm not sure if it's the problem.

I still have the lagging when i boot from OS9.1 Base extensions so I'm still troubleshooting.

Gary. Do you have OS X on that machine? huh.gif

Mac OS X: Slow Startup, Pauses at "Initializing network" or "Configuring network time"

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106797

If you have OS X. Those settings affect OS 9.x at Startup.

If you don't.

Nevermind. wink.gif

Remember when you stated how fast 9 was ... think back around those days on what you did or changed etc.

Have you tried running booted from an OS 9 CD? I know things tend to be slower then anyway but the keyboard should not be affected.

I remember once reading about a general slowdown caused by an overloaded clipboard of all things. There is a way to clear it completely but I don't remember how...

Also, I know you've dumped some prefs, did you do the system prefs as well?

Finally, since this has taken so much of your time, why not try a clean install?

Yeah. If a Clean Install fixes things you know it's a Software issue. smile.gif

You could always trash the new System and go fom there. smile.gif

I don't have OSX on the Beige G3.

I did trash the Finder prefs along with the keyboard prefs.

I checked all the connections and disconnected all my peripherals in cluding all my USB stuff (USB Hub, printer, USB Wacom tablet, serial wacom tablet, USB mouse, etc.

I may do a clean install as a last resort.

Krissel,
I'll try your idea from the CD and see if the lag continues.

At this point I'm starting to get used to it.  wink.gif

Gary. Have you tried your "Extra Special" PRAM Zap? smile.gif

And how old is your Battery?

You always have to be sure it's good in these cases.

That's where Start Up Info is kept.

It might just be low and ineffective. smile.gif

Kelly,

I just did a RHP-Maintenance Drill and cleaned out a bunch of junk. I don't go into my System Folder as much as I used to.

I had removed my FujiFinepix Viewer from the G3 and it installed alot of stuff in the System Folder. It put stuff in my MRJ folder and I compared them to what was on the CD and trashed them. It also installed some old USBshimLibs and old drivers..I got rid of those too. There may be some more stuff it installed but I think I got it all...I hope. There was no installer log for it. dry.gif

I also tossed "MacTCP DNR" that must have been left over from OS8.6. rolleyes.gif

I looked for the invisible files OpenFolderListDB on all my partitions and tossed the ones that were not Volume Settings folders.

I trashed some System prefs and the ran Norton's and DiskWarrior and rebuilt the Desktop. It seems to be running better.

I did a 5 chime PRAM zap and reset my control panels.

One funny thing, When I went to turn off menu blinking in the General Controls Panel, It was set to off but I was still getting menu blinking....I had to move the slider
to blinking and then back to off to stop the blinking, would that be a sign of a Battery going south?

Netscape still lags, but the Finder is quicker.

Thanks everbody.

I'll get a new battery at Radio Shack next time I'm there. smile.gif  thanx.gif
