Enough sucking up??  wub.gif  I just received a full CD of wpd files, problem is I don't have Corel Wordperfect. I can't even find a copy to buy but I'm wondering if any of you might know where I could find a reader or viewer.  thanx.gif

Rascal, MacLinkPlus (commercial) will do it: http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/index.html. But if there is also a freeware program called AbiWord that is supposed to work http://www.abiword.com/. The only issues that might arise (IMNHO) are likely to be related to embedded graphics or if the wpd document containas unusual fonts or symbols.

Or, if the file is not "sensitive", you can forward it to me and I'll give it a go and the return it in Word, Text Edit, PDF or whatever.

Hi Rascal,

I checked Corel's site because they have/had a Wordperfect viewer for people without wordperfect...but I couldn't find it.

A search at Google found this link to a government site and they recommend the wordperfect viewer and provide a link to it here

Corel WordPerfect Viewer

I also found these options

Microsoft's Free Word Viewer  Which some say can also read WordPerfect files

Thirdly and maybe best of all since this would allow you edit those files...(note: viewers don't allow editing although you can probably cut/paste from a viewer into another word processor.)

AbiWord Which is a free/opensource word processor. I have Abiword for Linux and it opens WordPerfect files very well.

If you choose the first option, you may also wish to collect and install the WinZip program also linked from there. WinXP has a rudimentary unzipping capability, but WinZip is fantastic.

Before going through the whole download thing though, check your own computer to see if MS Works came pre-installed. If it did, it may open WordPerfect files. Some PC makers will install it by default...used to be they all did. It is a "hunnerd dollar" program though so they may have left it out.

Let us know which you choose and how it works.

seeya,
Diana

Hey Bill!! what's shaking! It's been a while since I've been on the board myself.. sorta sulk away in shame! I've tried everything and nothing seems to want to work so I just placed a bid on Ebay for the Corel program.

Diane, I tried the MS viewer and it won't open the files and AbiWord, I downloaded but it seemed to disappear, I did a search for it and it never came up, I'm not sure what that's about.

As usual this board is the greatest!!

Shirley, you should be able to use Word XP to convert and open those WordPerfect files. See the instructions here:

Let us know if it works! smile.gif

I just found the "my assistant" feature, which I might add is kinda cool! and just saw your reply to my posting Paddy. I don't have microsoft word, my program that came with the comp is "open office" which is ok as long as you don't want to send anything to anyone or read anyone else's stuff! Anyway, I found a converter, can't remember where now and the files opened beautifully! Hope everyone is fine.. miss you guys and my Mac!!
