I've always wondered when using preview to open a gif the frame windows would slide out yet what good does that do.?.
Started looking around and ... smile.gif

Gosh Bill, I thought all Mac users knew that!  That's why they call it preview.

It gets even beter too.  Highlight a whole folder of images, and not just gifs, and presto, preview will open them all just like if each image was a page in a text document.  You can then rapidly click the page bar to view the individual images.

I'm confused. I don't find a "view" menu in Preview, nor am I finding place to customize toolbar. Is this possibly only for Jag?

Again ... is this in Jag? When I highlight a folder of images, preview opens each one in their own little window.

Could be Jaguar kimmer. Not sure. smile.gif

Open a document or whatever and then try View > Customize Toolbar.

You have Jaguar on the way don't you?

"If a different version is installed on your computer, choose Mac Help from the Help menu."

Good tip, I didn't know either...but then many of us would never think of using Preview for animated GIFs. Cool. B)

Yes, Jag is "in the mail" according to OWC. smile.gif

I just played with several docs/graphics. The animted gif doesn't animate, and no toolbar option in anything.

The Mac help for preview doesn't say anything different from what you pointed me to at the apple site. laugh.gif

I'm in OS 10.1.5 ... so I think this must be a Jag thingy. I'll let you know.  smile.gif

Kimmer:

I am sorry.  blush-anim-cl.gif  I often forget that there are people who don't update their systems.  Yes these Preview features (and many more) awaits only those who upgrade to Jaguar (OS X 10.2.x).   B)

Kimmer.
I had no idea this feature was exclusively for Jag. Whoops.

Here's a screenshot of what you'll be looking for when you have Jag installed.
Bottom half of the screenshot is what you'll see when you chose custom toolbar.

Bill & others:

You don't need the play button to view a pict, gif, or jpg file.  If you open with or drag to the Preview icon, it should automatically view it.  If you open several image files at the same time, just click the tumbnail button in the toolbar and the tumbnail draw slides out so you can select any of the images just like if they were pages in a document.  If the gifs are animated gifs the tumbnail draw has each frame of the animation there, and then you DO need to use the play button to start the animation.

Just thought I'd explain that   Thinking.gif

Enlarge an image in preview by more than 100% and you can use your mouse to drag it around like in PS.

Next trick is to see if will fry eggs over medium. <gr>

And to think I was so down-in-the-dumps when PictureViewer didn't hop-the-fence. smile.gif
