Technically, the definition I got from the NWS is Small Hail! Obviously "defined" after it had been called snow granules. They appear to be very small snow flakes that fall through a thin and slightly above freezing layer. Then they hit another much colder layer before finally reaching the surface. If that 'warmer' layer is thick enough, they may end up as sleet. And it the freezing layer is too thin but continues to the surface, it becomes freezing rain/mist. Of course, if...

Fortunately, all precip has stopped. Grass has a bit of snow, puddles on streets will probably freeze over night but I don't think we'll get any more snow.
