Is Fall Showing Around Your Home?

Our Maple trees and a couple of Euonymus shrubs are the first to show that Fall has arrived!

I have 5 Euonymus shrubs down the side of my drive and it's a riot of color. I'll try to find a dryish moment and get a picture.

I have several Eunoymus and they are magnificent in Autumn. Around here, the common name is Burning Bush, an entirely appropriate appellation at this time of year.

Had a few very cold days (6C, 40F) and a couple of nights below freezing, so we are almost past Fall... piles of leaves everywhere! Hedgehogs are still turning up at our feeding station though.

My sister and I took a walk the other day and here are some shots starting with the front lawn.

Beautiful!!

Would that "orange" tree happen to be a Ginko? That species always seems to hold all its leaves until every single one has turned a bright yellow! Here's a picture I took back in 2009 of a strangers yard. I assume they weren't home or the Police were busy elsewhere!

I thought it was a Ginko at first but I walked up closer to it and realized the leaves weren't correct, so I don't know what it was.

Love my little red maple tree in the front yard, plus the ferns. Soon the Kinnikinnick (edges the drive) will turn reddish in color, and then bloom. Love it.

Pretty.  :)
My ferns died off weeks ago and now I have a yard layered thick with leaves. Been too wet to do anything with them. We are almost 10 inches higher than average in rain total for the year. Wish I could send some to California. :verysad:
At the other house we are expecting a few inches of the white stuff on Thursday.   :no2:

Light snow forecast here, also. I am in urgent contact with the weather service demanding the person or persons responsible be reprimanded immediately. I will include a request that they send the snow eastward if you want.

I have 3 different ferns in the front, 2 of each, must be symmetrical.  :p  I love watching them come alive each spring, and then flower, and slowly go to rest.

Send me some snow. I'd love it for a day or two.

At the airport:
Quote
Rain ended @ 5 past the hr.
Freezing Drizzle began @ 7 and ended @ 8 past this hr.
Snow ended @ 5 past the hr.
Undefined precip: GSB05E07B08.
The unidentified precip is translated: Snow grains, began at 5min past the hour, ended at 7 past and began again at 8 past. Looks like I need to add "Snow grains" to the dictionary. OTOH, I'd rather just move farther south...

"Snow grains"?  I guess the flakes are in the weather bureau and not fluttering outside.  :)   I've heard of "snain" but that's a combo of snow and rain.

Kimmer, you can have all our white stuff, all winter.

And Jim, not necessary to send your precip our way, we have enough, thank you.  :p

Technically, the definition I got from the NWS is Small Hail! Obviously "defined" after it had been called snow granules. They appear to be very small snow flakes that fall through a thin and slightly above freezing layer. Then they hit another much colder layer before finally reaching the surface. If that 'warmer' layer is thick enough, they may end up as sleet. And it the freezing layer is too thin but continues to the surface, it becomes freezing rain/mist. Of course, if... :stop:

Weather is always interesting and difficult to forecast. ;)

Fortunately, all precip has stopped. Grass has a bit of snow, puddles on streets will probably freeze over night but I don't think we'll get any more snow.  Friday should be back in the 40's.
