I've got a couple of messages from an old HS buddy who runs a windows machine and rarely has messages worth reading. However, I usually open them... just in case!
Lately, I've seen a couple that there were
supposed to have images in them. These images did not display in Mail, they simply had the generic image type icon and a bit of blue text saying: "Downloading..." (see attached image below).
Most comments point to this being a problem with user created Rules in Mail and has been know since
macOS 10.13 High Sierra. I had never seen it until this month and I'm now in
Mojave macOS 10.14. Many folks think it's a problem with how Apple's drive for more security is seeing what may be malware in the image file.
I have created a new Rule that basically stops all rules from being applied. I did this instead of turning OFF the 39 active ones! Hopefully, I'll be getting a few emails from this guy in the next few days and I can see if it a Rule problem or a security issue. Frankly, all these 'downloading' images had come only from this one individual and they very well could have malware embedded in them. But I also received an email from a more trusted friend which is where the screen shot below comes from. I'm pretty sure he also uses Windows and cannot vouch for his computer skills...
