Comcast wants too much info
« on: June 11, 2019, 02:04:00 PM »
Got this from Comcast this morning, they want me to use their router too. I said no, I like my own Netgear one.
They are very expensive anyway. Glad I bought their stock, might offset some of their high billing rates.

What do you think of this?

I got a notice from Comcast recently that said my present Netgear router was not allowing all of the cable speed I am paying for. They offered to sell me one of theirs, or lease me one and add a monthly charge to my bill. My son tested my upload/download speed and discovered that mine is many times faster than he gets in downtown Denver.

I declined Comcast's offer.
I'm not a complete idiot -- a few parts are missing!

I tested my speeds on a site you all recommended here a while ago, and my speed is great too.

The CEO of Comcast has a McMansion on Martha's Vineyard, a little island off our coast. Ive seen the house in the distance, wonder what it cost,,,,,,,,
Anyway, we like their internet, but TV is getting so full of junk, that we watch less than we ever did.

I forgot to say, that the latest issue of Economist magazine, has a lot of very interesting stuff about the internet, its future, and its problems.
I can copy the pages here if anybody wants to see it. Its OK with the magazine, as people who see interesting stuff there, sometimes get a subscription. My neighbours did.

I have Spectrum (aka Time Warner). The internet speeds are great (north of 200 Mb/s) but I ditched my cable connection several years ago. To paraphrase a famous saying, "Programs, programs everywhere and not a one that I want to watch."

Yes, indeed, the more channels they give us, and the amount is unbelievable, the less we watch.
I would say that we are interested in about 20 at the MOST!

Jane, please don't post the article here. They post things online, but you have to pay to read them and I didn't see anywhere on their site about how it's okay to share articles.

Jane, it’s not odd at all. A screen capture is still the intellectual property of the magazine, and unless they have given you written permission, you’re violating copyright laws—and here we would also be liable. Read the terms of service at The Economist:
https://www.economist.com/legal/terms-of-use

OK, I wont do that anymore. However some of the things from Economist mag. which Ive sent to people, have led friends to subscribe to the magazine.
And Ive always given the magazine name, page, and info.
(People use my photos in their pages and give my name, and thats OK by me.)

So thats that,,,,,,,,, I wont do that anymore for this, even tho it probably made more money for them with new subscriptions.

... to paraphrase a famous saying, "Programs, programs everywhere and not a one that I want to watch."
Or to quote Bruce Springsteen from 1992 (egad!! - that's over a quarter of a century ago  :Groaner: )
57 Channels (And Nothin' On). According to Wikipedia, it got to No.9 in Norway, 32 in UK and Sweden, 25 in Canada, but only 68 in the US.
In 2014 The Boss said on Facebook: "Shot back in the quaint days of only 57 channels and no flat screen TVs, I have no idea what we were aiming for in this one outside of some vague sense of "hipness" and an attempt at irony. Never my strong suit..."

:offtopic:         OK, I know it is... but  :drink:
