Catalina changes?
« on: August 26, 2019, 12:15:33 PM »
We've known for years that Apple would eventually switch to 64bit architecture and for over a year that macOS 15 would bring that switch to our desks. There is an Apple site from their marketing division that hypesreports many of the changes coming. Other things have been confirmed: iTunes has been dumped along with Dashboard (whatever that is/was).

I noticed some info on a CarbonCopyCloner update about separate System and Data areas. Here's what I've found about that 'new' separation scheme:
Quote from: Apple
macOS Catalina runs in its own read-only volume, so it’s separate from all other data on your Mac, and nothing can accidentally overwrite your system files. And Gatekeeper ensures that new apps you install have been checked for known security issues before you run them, so you’re always using good software.

Apps must now get your permission before directly accessing files in your Documents and Desktop folders, iCloud Drive, and external volumes, so you’re always in control of your data. And you’ll be prompted before any app can capture keyboard activity or a photo or video of your screen.

More details from Apple...
Same details, with a few different words from MacRumors.

What do you think of the new/changed items? Anything look interesting? Useful? :dntknw:

It will be a long time before I move to Catalina, so I tend to ignore the shock that awaits me down the road. HAHA  However, rather then say iTunes has been dumped (which kinda makes some of us [ME! HAHA] panic), it's better to state that iTunes has been split into 3 different apps, one of which will be named MUSIC. It will work just like iTunes, but it's only chore will be to play music. Imagine that. ;)  You won't lose your music library, and you'll still be able to add to it.

From your link at MacRumors:
Quote
In the Music app, there's full access to the music library, just like in iTunes, regardless of whether the songs were purchased or ripped from a CD. The iTunes Music Store is included in the Music app, and you can access Apple Music content, too.

I used "dumped" because that's what I do with a mess. My opinion, of course.

BTW, since Apple will be concentrating on "3 different apps", it might be a good time to find another solution for whatever you are using iTunes for. They will probably not be making any updates or bug fixes for iTunes... ever.

One new function in Mail that I am looking forward to, if it really works, if the ability to block emails from certain names/addressees. I fear that SpamSieve is getting too complicated and that Apple is interfering with its operation. ...on to other complaints!!

Edited to remove snarky remarks (mostly).
