For the few who still use Flash Player, read Adobe Flash Player EOL General Information Page

The inevitable "EOL" guide? :scram:

Ironic that even Adobe will be blocking Flash after the end of the year. According to item 7 on the linked page. :Look: Better late than never?! :p

Frankly (surely you remember him?!), I had almost forgot about Flash until I recently read some positive remarks about how it may have encouraged animation many years ago... perhaps in a galaxy far, far away... :dntknw:

I guess that we don't have to be concerned about flashers anymore.  :p

Today I got a pop-up from Adobe inviting me to Uninstall Flash Player. I wondered if it really was from Adobe, but I went ahead and clicked the Uninstall button anyway. I got a confirmation message, and so far nothing bad has happened. My virus scanner (ClamXAV) assures me my Mac is clean.

A System pop-up is most likely safe. Just beware of emails offering to do anything for you! If anyone still has Flash installed, you likely will also have an Uninstaller already. Probably the easiest way to disinfect your Mac of all the Flash stuff is to get the uninstaller directly from Adobe.

FINALLY. The thing that refused to die...

Forbes did an article on it in June - a surprising number of sites out there still using it when you consider that:

Quote
Flash is used as client-side programming language by 2.6% of the sites it has measured this month, which equates to 260,000 of the top 10 million sites still using Flash.

There are various estimates of how many websites there are in the world, with most suggesting there are between 1.5bn and 2bn, which means the number actually running Flash content will easily run into the millions, if not tens of millions.

I can say, that in over 20 years of developing websites, I've NEVER built one that used Flash. :D

I wonder what happened to a site1 that had several dozen Flash animated cards that one could insert personal greetings and send to friends. I used it a couple of times until I realized I didn't have any more friends. :dntknw: That site was also one of the first to use the "subscription" method!

Yikes...talk about a site that could do with an update! Very dated looking now. She IS using HTML5 now, though - not Flash. I have one friend who I think still subscribes and sends me cards from there. Not really my cup of tea (I find it a bit cutesy...), but I guess it saves trees. ;)
