Safari 14.0.1 Problem?
« on: November 24, 2020, 03:26:57 PM »
I discovered I cannot now attach an image to a post using Safari 14.0.1. I am writing this in a recent version of FF so I can show the normal forum method of attaching images in a post. I have tried two different Mac's, disable all extensions, Quit/restarted Safari and even added Safari to my "Full Disk Access" list to no avail.

Question: Are any members experiencing this problem? If not, what browser (and version) are you using?

Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

I apologize for misunderstanding how to attach a file. I am replying via Safari 14.0.1 and have attached a photo of my cat, just as an experiment. So far, Safari seems to be OK with my system. The attachment does not appear when I preview this post so I will have to actually post it.

It seems that the attachment was successful. Mods: Feel free to delete the attachment if it is too large, but I happened to have it on my desktop. BTW, Chatgrisette is supposed to be French for "little gray cat".

Well, I'll give it a shot...this little guy showed up across the road yesterday morning. We've seen him before - the last time, he was chasing a squirrel, which he finally caught and carried off. Very cat-like in their play/hunting behaviour!

So - the first time I tried to post, the image was too big. Cleared it, and attached a smaller version and it wouldn't do a darn thing when I clicked "post" - had to close the window and start a new post with the correctly sized photo. But otherwise, it was fine.

No problem, that's the way we have the software set up. It's a bit different than the old version where the image could actually show in line with the text. Thanks!

Have never seen that. But I usually trim down the image sizes, anyway. Still, it sounds strange that there was even a 'barrier' to posting. It could be just the way the software operates when an image is too big; warnings not clearing when adjustments are made/caches not cleared/etc.

I'm at a loss about what else I can do here to regain the normal behavior. It is something in my setup, but it is somehow the same in two different mac's?!

My first thought was an update I made today to DefaultFolderX. But the other Mac doesn't have that app. I'll look/try a few more things. I haven't checked on the phase of the Moon...

One tried-and-true procedure is to (re)apply the 10.14.6 Combo Update. You could also run First Aid with Disk Utility after booting into Recovery Mode. (I know, this is a shot in the dark, but I solved a pesky Mail problem by doing the equivalent in Catalina. Rebuilding the mailbox, relaunching Mail and restarting had no effect.)

Safari on my iPad works. :coolio:

I wonder if I can transfer the iPad version to the iMac! Isn’t that what Apple is trying to do with their new chip? :wallbash:

I moved all the Safari .plastic files out of my Library->Preferences directory, quit Safari, Shut down even but it didn’t change anything. I wonder if that actually helps anymore. There are duplicates in /Library/Containers/… When I stared up Safari again, a quick check revealed only a couple of prefs needed to be added: 1. set Home page to a local file, 2. Enable Develop menu. :coolio: Even the Websites pref has the dozens of sites I “allow” downloads from.

Jim, try from another account, perhaps? Of course, the fact that you're seeing this on two different Macs is a bit odd...

BTW - what happens after you click on the "Browse" button? You didn't explain where the process goes off the rails, exactly.

Nothing useful. The button’s background color changes and then returns to normal. Period. It behaves like a href = “#” link.

I’ll probably run the Mojave Combo Updater and hope it “sees” Safari needs to be reinstalled. Used to be one could move an app’s BOM file to ‘encourage’ reinstalling.  That sounds safer than deleting Safari via Terminal. :sweatingbullets:

Looks like we're in "good" company. The "I have this problem too" button shows 175 hits! I didn't click but I have reported/submitted a the bug. For future reference: https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
Quote from: apple.discussions
Upload files using import functionality not working on Mohave - 14.0.1 safari version..
but working on Catalina.. something is terribly wrong in Mojave release.. please look into it..
Quote from: ditto
After updating Safari to 14.0.1 I was unable to upload any files.  Called Apple support on 11/16/2020. They had me on hold for 45 minutes. When they finally connected me with a technician, I was on the line with him for another 40 minutes and resolved nothing. He suggested that I install Chrome or Firefox. Unbelievable...
Quote from: same as above
There are at least half a dozen threads here reporting the same bug. Please report it to Apple.
If it's mainly Mojave, there may not be many man-hours spent on this...

That was reported in the forums. I was preparing to upgrade this week and only stopped when I discovered this problem. I think I will wait until 11/27 so I won't be blaming something on a day I should be very thankful! :blush-anim-cl:  :yahoo:
Never put off till tomorrow what can be put off till next week!
:whistling:

Just installed Catalina. I can now use the "Choose File"/"Browse" button again. :coolio: Looking forward to other pleasurable features/functions. :p

 May have spoken too soon. Just realized I'm now using Safari 13.1.3. I plan on compressing that one before applying the updates to the app; first to 14.0 then 14.0.1. May actually do those individually, testing as we go...
